Congratulations Briana Faxon!
In case you missed it on Facebook...
Bremerton High School teacher Briana Faxon was honored by the Seattle Mariners Radio Network, WSECU, and Seattle Sports 710 AM as a 2024 WSECU Teacher of the Week!
Briana was honored at a Mariners game this summer, received a $500 classroom grant, and an additional $500 grant for Bremerton High School, courtesy of WSECU. There was also a radio ad that ran this summer recognizing Briana as one of just 24 teachers in the state selected to receive this honor.
It will be no surprise to those who know Briana that she was nominated by a former student who said, “Even now as an alumni, I have asked her for help with college-related things and she has helped because she has let us know that she will always be our teacher even when we aren’t in her classroom anymore.”
Congratulations, Briana!
ParentSquare!
We have launched ParentSquare and have gotten lots of positive feedback from parents and staff who are using it. A few FYIs re: ParentSquare.
- ParentSquare users can choose how they get the information - email, app notification or text. It also allows users to choose the frequency for each type of communication. For example, they can opt-in to get texts instantly and emails digested. Or, they can opt out of emails entirely and choose to receive a digested text and/or instant app notifications.
- If a ParentSquare user chooses "digested" information for any of these, they will get a summary of all ParentSquare posts around 6 p.m.
- Parents and staff do not have to use ParentSquare. However, it is the District's mass messaging tool so it will be used to send attendance notifications (required by law), as well as all district- and school-level communication. If a parent or staff member hasn't activate their ParentSquare account, they will receive communication via email or text (depending on what contact information we have for them in Skyward).
StudentSquare
- The student-version of ParentSquare is called StudentSquare. It can be accessed via a computer or mobile device (just like ParentSquare).
- StudentSquare will only be available to secondary students (MVMS, BHS and RHS).
- We have not launched StudentSquare broadly to all students as we started with fall athletes and are working the bugs out.
- Teachers are welcome to start using StudentSquare for your classes (which are automatically synced from Skyward). Your students will need to verify their StudentSquare account using their BSD-issued student email.
- You can use this flyer to help students set up their ParentSquare account.
- If you have a student who runs into an issue with verifying their account, please send the student name and a description of the issue to: communications@BremertonSchools.org.
