School Meals
We ask that outside food not be brought in or delivered to school. At the High School, students are able to get breakfast before school starting at 7:30 AM. Second chance breakfast is offered between the first two periods each day to allow students to get breakfast if they missed it before school. We have four lunch shifts.
Parents may apply for Free or Reduced lunches by filling out the application through School Cafe.
School Dances
We will have four dances at the High School.
Homecoming: Saturday, September 21, 7-10 PM in the HS Event Center. This is a semi-formal dance for all Jackson High School Students. Due to the volume of students in attendance, we DO NOT allow guests from other schools for this dance only.
Silver Arrow: Saturday, December 7, 7-10 PM in the HS Event Center. This is a formal dance for all Jackson High School Students. Students are allowed to bring one guest. They will need to have their guest complete the Guest Permission form and submit it to the JHS office.
Barn-Warming Dance: Friday, October 11, 6:30-8:30 PM in the HS Old Gymnasium. This is a casual dance for all Jackson High School students.
Prom: Saturday, May 3, 7-10 PM in the HS Event Center. This is a formal dance for Juniors and Seniors only. Students are allowed to bring one guest. They will need to have their guest complete the Guest Permission form and submit it to the JHS office.
Students must be in good standing to attend dances. Students failing two or more classes will be placed on Admin Probation and will not be allowed to attend school dances or events. Students that have been suspended out of school for discipline reasons may not be allowed to attend school sponsored dances and events.
Visitor Policy
We try to limit the number of visitors in the building.
ALL visitors must check in at the main office.
If you need to sign your student out, you may call the attendance office at (573) 243-9513 to arrange this and avoid the need to enter the building.
Student ID Badges
CTC Students
Cape Girardeau Career & Technology does not start school until Tuesday, August 20. When Cape Girardeau Public Schools are not in session on days Jackson is, CTC students will not have to attend that portion of the day. For example: Morning CTC students would not have to report to Jackson High School until 11:10AM. Afternoon CTC students would be finished with classes at 11:10 and would be allowed to leave school early. Please see the attached CTC calendar.
JHS Cell Phone Policy
When students return on Monday, August 19th, students will NOT be allowed to use cell phones, digital watches with internet access, earbuds, or headphones during class time. These devices are expected to be out of sight and silenced during the entire class period. We recommend students leave them in their backpacks.
Students will be permitted to use their cell phones and digital watches before school, during passing periods, lunch, and during advisory privilege in privilege locations.
For students who require an electronic device for medical reasons, appropriate accommodations will be made.
If a parent or guardian needs to reach a student, we encourage you to use the student’s email account. In case of an emergency, please contact the main office at 573-243-9513. Our goal with this policy is to maximize student learning, reduce distractions, and support academic success.
McTeacher's Night - August 29
Support your schools at Jackson R-2 McTeacher’s Night on Thursday, August 29, from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Stop by McDonald’s in Jackson and vote for your favorite teacher! The three teachers with the highest votes win a McFlurry party for their classroom! Proceeds raised from sales during that time go to the Jackson R-2 School District Foundation to support teachers and students.
