Message from Principal Webb
Longhorn scholars are doing amazing things and having incredible experiences. This week our 5th grade was at School of the Wild and we had school pictures. Next week we will have another fire practice drill, bus evacuation drill, Kidsight screening for Pk-K and 4th grade has a field trip.
Below is our Parent Teacher Conference electronic sign up. Many families already signed up at Back to School Night and do not need to sign up again. This link will be available on Wednesday, October 23rd at 4:00pm through November 11th. Please reach out to your classroom teacher if you need help signing up for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Special teachers (music, PE, art, classroom counseling, and library) are also available to reserve conference spots.
Please help keep our carline working smoothly by staying in the line, dropping students off on the right side of the car, and waiting patiently for the line to move. Turning right from the school on Seymour helps move the carline quickly.
Just a reminder to help your student dress for the weather each day! It can be so unpredictable in the fall! Our Lost and Found area is in the main vestibule so check it out!
Have an amazing weekend,
Principal Webb

Rent the Celebration Rock
The purpose of the Celebration Rock is to promote school spirit at Longfellow Elementary School. Parents, caregivers, students & staff have the opportunity to “Rent the Rock” to recognize a student’s birthday, show school spirit, thank or recognize a teacher or staff member, mark congratulatory events, etc. It is a great way to spread positive messages and increase excitement in our community! 100% of the funds raised through the Celebration Rock will be used by the school or PTA for events and for school improvement for our amazing students!

Note from the Nurse:
We are getting closer to the winter season and sometimes we start to see an increase in students identified with head lice. Students tend to share coats, scarves, and hats, headphones, etc. Please remind your children not to share these items with friends.
Facts about Head Lice
Anyone can get head lice. They are not a sign of poor hygiene and do not transmit disease.
Head lice can spread from one child to another through direct head-to-head contact or by sharing personal items such as combs, brushes, or caps.
Lice do not jump, fly, or swim. They are, however, good crawlers.
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services advises parents/guardians to check their child’s head for lice and/or nits (eggs) weekly.
Mature lice which are not bigger than a sesame seed avoid light and can be difficult to see. Lice eggs or “nits” are usually found close to the scalp. They appear as tiny whitish ovals that are “glued” to the hair shaft. Unlike dandruff, they cannot be easily removed from the hair shaft.
You can find general head lice information and treatment options from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.
You can find additional information about head lice on our district website.
