MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Greetings MVCSD Community,
The growth of our Career and Technical Education Department has been exciting to watch. The addition of Mount Vernon STEAM Academy students to our automotive classes is a wonderful development and opportunity for students. Earle Mitchell, the regional placement specialist at Ford, visited the class this week to discuss the wide breadth of careers that will be available to them with the knowledge and certifications gained in the class. Thank you for visiting, Mr. Mitchell! Our partnership with Ford’s ACE program provides a great option and career head start for our students, and I am excited to see its continued growth and success.
Women’s History Month is in full swing, and our pre-K students were able to speak to a wonderful role model who graduated from the Mount Vernon City School District just eight years ago. Naya Lovell is already having great success in her dancing career. She spoke to the children and encouraged them to follow their dreams, because anything is possible. Ms. Lovell is a great example of the amazing women that come from Mount Vernon, and there are so many more just like her. Women from Mount Vernon aspire for greatness and often reach it with hard work and talent.
I also want to extend a congratulations to our new Assistant Superintendent of Business, Sandra Myke. Ms. Myke has an extensive background in accounting, financial reporting and school administration. She will work diligently on the budget to ensure we are delivering the most possible services to students in the most fiscally responsible way. Working with her on the upcoming budget has been delightful, and I am certain she will have great success in her new position.
Kindest Regards,
Dr. K. Veronica Smith
Acting Superintendent of Schools
