June Is...
Pride Month
Pride Month is observed annually in June to celebrate the dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) individuals. This month commemorates the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969 and are widely considered a catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Pride Month is a time to reflect on the struggles and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community and to continue the fight against discrimination and injustice. LGBTQ+ Pride Month is not only a celebration of love, identity, and acceptance but also an opportunity to raise awareness about the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community and to advocate for full equality and inclusion in all aspects of life.

Safety and Security
Message from Solvei Jurmu, Director of Safety and Security
Kids today are growing up in an age where technology is a routine part of their lives, even in kindergarten. The internet is full of tremendous opportunities to enhance their education, but if children don’t learn how to properly navigate and communicate in this digital age, they can be walking into trouble.
Across North Shore School District 112, Deerfield Public Schools District 109 and Bannockburn School District 106, the three districts I serve, there is a real emphasis placed on teaching students how to become digital citizens and equipping families with the skills and knowledge to monitor what their child is doing on a computer or smartphone and to have tough conversations about the appropriateness of content when necessary.
