SMS Weekly Update
May 17, 2024
Life at SMS
This week, SMS celebrates two events: the 5th-grade visit and the Character Strong Challenge.
5th-grade visit: On Thursday, all four Sherwood elementary schools came together for the first time at SMS to celebrate moving up to the middle school. SMS Leadership students led small group tours of the building, counselors created an activity to welcome the future Archers, they were given the opportunity to ask questions about what life is like at the middle school, and then ended their day with lunch in the commons. There was a lot of excitement while they were here, and SMS is thrilled to welcome them next year!
Character Strong Challenge: Part of SMS’s Character Strong lessons delivered in Flight Time are challenges given to students to help build them up as people and members of the school community. This past week, one class decided to show their love and support for peers at SMS by decorating the sidewalks with inspirational messages. The goal is to offer empathy, encouragement, and compassion to those who need it and show that there are people who care about their well-being and mental health. Creating a community of care is what SMS strives to do, and we celebrate the thoughtfulness of these messages.

Outdoor School
This Tuesday our second group of sixth graders will head to Outdoor School. This is an exciting time of year for our students and we are so excited to see them explore their science curriculum in a fun and engaging way. Families have received a lot of information from their student(s) science teacher, and we wanted to ensure that all of that information was in one easy to read place as you make last minute preparations to head to camp.
