Luce Notes
Principal Weekly Update to Caregivers
Principal Lamour Update
Last week we had a great first SHINE assembly, senior workshops on leadership & kindness in 2nd and 5th grade, and lots of learning! Please see the following highlights in this week's Luce Notes.
- This week we will post the after school club opportunities for families. Please consider enrolling your child in a club.
- At the beginning of each school year, the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires districts to notify in writing the families/guardians of students attending a Title I school that they may request information regarding the professional qualifications of their student’s classroom teachers and paraprofessionals, which is outlined in the "Parents' Right to Know" letter. I have attached the Parents Right To Know 2024-2025 document below.
- Rosh Hashanah & Yom Kippur:
Next week we mark the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the commencement of the spiritual New Year in the Jewish faith. This year, the holiday celebration encompasses the time between sundown on Wednesday, October 2, through sundown on Friday, October 4, 2024. There is no school on Thursday, October 3, 2024.
In addition, the Jewish High Holiday for atonement, Yom Kippur, begins at sundown on Friday, October 11 and ends at sundown on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
These religious days are the most sacred on the Jewish calendar and signal the beginning and end of the Yamim Noraim, a ten day period beginning with Rosh Hashanah, followed by days of repentance, and ending with Yom Kippur. Daily meditation, prayer, and specific work restrictions are all part of the aforementioned holidays.
Universal Screening: Students in grades 1-5 will complete their STAR testing this week. Testing ends on September 27. This STAR 360 Assessment is our universal screener that helps us identify current performance levels and will be administered three times this year to monitor progress and growth. This assessment is given on an ipad or chromebook and is adaptive so it will adjust as students answer questions correctly or incorrectly. Family reports will go home in the next couple of weeks with information on your child's Fall screening results and possible next steps.

In the spirit of emergency preparedness month, make sure your child is ready for any emergency at school. The most common emergency is the need for a clothes change! Whether it be an accident on the playground or in the bathroom, accidents happen and a fresh pair of pants, shirt, underwear and socks can save their day if needed. Please pack some in their backpack. The health office is always grateful for any donations of underwear and comfortable pants (no jeans please) in all sizes.
