Parking Reminders
Please remember that the visitor parking lot (the smaller one next to the playground) should be used any time you need to pick up a student. The larger parking lot in the middle of the traffic loop is for staff only during school hours. We have had a few parents park in the staff parking lot and get stuck in there during pick up time in the loop and we want to avoid this happening in the future. Thanks for your help with this matter!

DES Family Engagement
This year at DES, one of our focus areas is family engagement. We know that when families are involved in their child's education, everyone wins. In addition to Open House, Conferences and Family Literacy Night in March, we have planned opportunities for each grade level to engage with families in fun and educational activities throughout the year and we hope you'll be able to join us when the time comes.
Discipline Update from Mr. Briggs
Please discuss with your student the appropriate bathroom behavior which is outlined on our expectations poster below. We have had multiple instances where students have purposely flushed the toilets multiple times in order to make the bathroom floor flood. This is causing our custodians to clean up after the unnecessary flushing. It is also affecting our plumbing which can be deemed as property damage if damage does occur. The discipline policy for property damage in our Dundee Elementary School handbook is attached below:
PBIS Updates from Mr. Briggs
This month we focused on our playground behavior for our first Viking Value. The students did a great job learning the rules of the new playground. Our recess supervisors have been working hard to connect with students and reward positive behavior. Students have also been earning ROW tickets in all other areas of the building.
Each week, every classroom has a Weekly PBIS Row Ticket Winner. Overall, we have had 155 different winners who were able to claim a prize in our first five weeks of school. One student per classroom who was a Weekly Winner will have a chance to “pie” Mrs. Love, Mr. Briggs, or their classroom teacher (if they want to participate) as a fun reward on Wednesday, October 2nd!
Looking ahead to October, our Viking Value of the Month will be kindness. We will discuss this at our Viking Value of the Month assembly on Wednesday, October 2nd. Our recess supervisors have exciting plans to focus on kindness each week during the month of October. More details to come!
October is National Bullying Awareness Month
To support this important initiative, our playground staff will provide kindness activities every Wednesday of the month.
Week 1 Parachute
Week 2 Kind words inside students’ chalk outlines
Week 3 Birthday line-up teamwork
Week 4 Musical chairs/hot potato
Week 5 Dance party
These activities are all in effort to get the kids to work together, get to know new friends, communicate and relate to each other. Special thanks to our playground supervisors for planning these fun and engaging activities for all students!
