August 16, 2024 Family Newsletter
Dear Families,
We’ve had an excellent first week! The students are quickly settling in; making new friends and (re)engaging in the joy of learning. I enjoy walking the halls and hearing the excitement as they begin their day of learning. There’s a buzz in the air with Junior High Student Council elections coming up and the 9th graders preparing for their first microeconomy event at North Shore on Thursday the 20th from 6-8 pm during the Annual Pool Party. (This celebration is open to all MMA families and alumni.)
Our fall sports teams are kicking off with soccer and flag football, our kindergarten teachers have begun giving individual lessons and teachers have been busy planning field experiences and lessons for students!
Our character traits of the month are; Respect and Safety.
Respect is the regard and consideration for the rights, feelings, and traditions of others.
Safety is the condition of being protected from harm or danger.
Together, they ensure a secure and considerate environment where students feel valued and secure.
Thank you for being a good model for your children during pick up and drop off and a special thank you to NOPD Officer Preece! Our #1 priority is to keep you and your child/ren safe. Parking in North Shore’s parking lot and walking across the road is always an option. Please support our teachers and student crossing guards as they enforce these drop off and pick up procedures:
Cross only in the crosswalk.
Wait for the crossing guard to signal before crossing.
Be courteous to others in the carpool line and utilize all three lanes. (this minimizes the congestion on 200 E.)
Pull all the way forward.
Use your turn signal.
Do not park in the carpool lane.
Do not exit your vehicle in the carpool lane. If you need to enter the building, please park your vehicle.
Students should enter vehicles at the curb only.
Follow all traffic patterns/rules.
Demonstrate patience.
End all cell phone calls prior to entering the parking lot.
Report safety concerns to the front office immediately.
In the coming weeks, your children will get to participate in the Montessori Great Lessons. These are a series of foundational stories designed to spark children's curiosity and provide a broad understanding of the world. They are introduced in the early years of Montessori education and cover key concepts such as the origins of the universe, the development of life on Earth, the development of human societies, and the creation of writing and numbers. These lessons are not just about imparting facts but are crafted to inspire a sense of wonder and interconnection, encouraging children to explore and discover more about the world around them. By presenting these grand narratives in an engaging and age-appropriate way, the Great Lessons help lay the groundwork for deeper learning and intellectual growth. We encourage you to discuss your family’s origin beliefs and stories as a connection between home and school and an extension of learning. .
Our Family Teacher Association will hold their first meeting on the 19th after drop off. We’d love to have your support throughout the year! Stop by to hear about all the ways you can contribute to our continued success!
August 22nd will be our theater parent meeting with Ms. Lisa for the performance “A Grimm Night”. This is open to 1st - 9th grade students. Save the Date! We will celebrate Maria Montessori’s 154 birthday and MMA’s 15th birthday on Friday August 31st from 3:30-4:00pm at the school.
Stay up to date by reading teacher emails and following us on facebook or instagram. We’ll also be utilizing “OneCall” for text/voicemail reminders.
It truly is a joy to come to work each day. Thanks for being part of our community!
Much love,
Kacee Weaver
