SES Staff Present at TitleCon 2025
We are proud to announce that Allyson Wegner (Principal, Sullivan Elementary) and Brandy Gentry (Literacy Coach, Sullivan Elementary) will present a session on using leveled phonics blocks to close reading gaps in K-5 students at the Title Con Conference in Indianapolis on April 16th.
This session will provide educators with a structured approach to assessing and addressing students’ phonics needs using a phonics screener at the start of the school year. Presenters will guide attendees through the process of analyzing screener data, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and creating leveled phonics groups that support differentiated instruction.
The session will begin with a 20-30 minute presentation where school leaders share their experience implementing phonics screeners, grouping students effectively, and using data-driven strategies to improve literacy outcomes. Educators will learn about specific screeners, progress-tracking methods, and techniques for adapting instruction based on student needs.
Following the presentation, the session will transition into a round table discussion, encouraging attendees to ask questions, share experiences, and collaborate on best practices. The goal is to help educators leave with practical, actionable strategies for implementing phonics screeners and differentiated phonics instruction in their own schools.
Key Takeaways:
- Best practices for administering and interpreting phonics screeners.
- How to use screener data to identify gaps and strengths in phonics skills.
- Effective strategies for grouping students and providing targeted phonics instruction.
- Real-world examples from Sullivan Elementary on implementing leveled phonics blocks.
- Methods for tracking student progress and adjusting instruction as needed.
