A Message From Mr. Callen
Hello Monroe Families -
As the school year comes to a close I think it's safe to say that our students are excited for a well-deserved break! Before the final bell rings I want to highlight a few things that we can ALL celebrate as a learning community:
- A new literacy curriculum encouraged us to step outside our comfort zone to teach, learn, and collaborate in new ways. As such, Monroe students will leave our building much stronger readers than when they arrived in September.
- SFA introduced a new social-emotional curriculum to our building. As such, students learned about and practiced ways to become better friends, better problem solvers, and more focused learners.
- Mid-year changes in building leadership and staff created some confusion and uncertainty. I am very proud of how resilient our students were and how willing our staff was to go the extra mile to meet student needs.
- Thanks to the hard work of our PTA, Monroe students enjoyed special event nights, end-of-year activities, and new classroom resources/materials.
This is just a short list, but we have so much to be proud of here at Monroe. Monroe is a special place and I am grateful to have been a small part of its many successes during the past four years. I hope you and your children have a safe and enjoyable summer break.
SFA News
June 2024
We have much to celebrate here at Monroe! I am thrilled to share that our students have made significant growth in their reading skills over the past year. According to measures used with the SFA reading program, we now have 46% of our readers in grades K-5 who are reaching grade level expectations! This growth is thanks to the efforts made by our students, teachers, support staff, and parents & caregivers. Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in your child’s education this year.
As we look towards summer break, I want to encourage you to continue engaging your child in literacy activities. Reading regularly over the summer is critical to maintaining and further developing their skills!
Linked below are some free resources to keep your child’s love for reading alive throughout the summer:
