π¦ EAGLE FAMILY SPOTLIGHT π¦
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Eagle Families,
With the new year comes new opportunities. For the past few school openings, our staff and students have embraced the One Word Challenge to help them set goals. I am excited to share this inspiring initiative with our families as we start the new calendar year, the One Word Challenge by Jon Gordon. This challenge encourages students, families, and staff to choose a single word that will guide and inspire them throughout the year.
What is the One Word Challenge?
The One Word Challenge is about selecting one word that represents your vision, passion, and purpose for the year. Instead of making resolutions, which can often be forgotten, this one word becomes a driving force that helps you stay focused and motivated.
How to Participate:
- Choose Your Word: Reflect on what you want to achieve or improve this year. Think about a word that resonates with your goals and aspirations.
- Share Your Word: Write your word on a piece of paper, decorate it, and display it somewhere visible at home. Encourage your child to do the same.
- Live Your Word: Let this word guide your actions and decisions throughout the year. Discuss with your family how you can incorporate this word into your daily lives.
Why Participate?
- Focus: Helps you concentrate on what truly matters.
- Clarity: Provides a clear vision for your goals.
- Motivation: Keeps you inspired and driven.
You can find more resources and ideas on author Jon Gordon's website here. We are proud to have such a supportive and engaged community at PS 23. Thank you for all that you do to support your childβs education and well-being. Together, we can make this year truly transformative by embracing the One Word Challenge.

The Kindergarten Application is Now OPEN!
Beginning today, December 10th, children born in 2020 can apply to kindergarten for the 2025-26 school year.
The application deadline is Friday, January 24, 2025. All families who apply by the deadline will receive a kindergarten offer in April.
All families should participate in kindergarten admissions, including children currently attending pre-K, students with disabilities, English Language Learners, and students with accessibility needs.
Reminder that families can also apply to gifted & talented programs using the kindergarten application.
MySchools.nyc includes an online directory tool that allows families to view school open house info, explore program choices, save programs of interest, and submit their application, all on the same site.
Families can apply to Kindergarten in one of three ways, online at MySchools, over the phone by calling 718-935-2009 or by visiting their local family welcome center.
Visit the resources page for resources including the following:
- A Kindergarten application flyer for you to share with your pre-k families applying to Kindergarten
- Guide to adding Open Houses or tours to our MySchools Events Calendar
- Flyers for our Elementary School Admissions events covering 3K, pre-K, and Kindergarten admissions
