GMS NEWSLETTER
April 2025
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
It is starting to feel like normal at GMS again. I hope most of you can say the same at home. Our “Big Day” for 8th grade state testing is next Wednesday. Please have your students to school on time and prepared for testing.
On Friday, we will be visiting Kirtland for a Career Exploration Day. Please pay special attention to your child’s permission slip. Half of our students are attending in the morning, while the other half are going in the afternoon. I want to make sure you know when your child will be out of the building. Our students really enjoyed visiting Kirtland last year.
Again, I hope everyone has their power back on and are getting things cleaned up. Happy Easter.
Joe Somerville
PSAT and M-STEP TESTING
All 8th grade students will take the state-required PSAT on Wednesday, April 23rd. There will be a Reading/Writing section and a Math section on this test. M-STEP testing will begin at the end of April and continue into May. 8th graders will test in Social Studies on April 30th and May 1st and Science on May 6th-8th. 7th graders will test in ELA on April 29th to May 2nd and Math on May 6th - 9th. Student attendance on these days is incredibly important. Please make every effort to have your student at school on time on testing days. Students concentrate best when they’ve had sufficient sleep and have eaten breakfast.
REPORT CARDS WILL BE SENT HOME WITH STUDENTS ON FRIDAY, MAY 2ND
8TH GRADE EXPLORATION DAY
Eighth graders were asked to choose their top three choices (Kirtland will try to put students in their top two) from the following list to explore. Students will be bringing home permission slips this week. We will be taking all of our 8th grade students to Kirkland, in Grayling, on April 25th.
IMMUNIZATIONS
