WINTER MAP TESTING
WINTER MAP TESTING
Dear HST Parent/Guardian,
On January 28 and January 30, your child will take a test called MAP Growth. Students previously took this test at the beginning of the school year in September to determine their instructional level. We administer the test again to measure their academic growth throughout the school year. Your child will test in the areas of Math and Reading for Grades 6-8. The tests will be taken on a computer or Chromebook on the following dates:
- ELA MAP - Tuesday, January 28
- Math MAP - Thursday, January 30
MAP Growth tests are designed to adapt to your child’s individual learning level. This ensures that every student has an opportunity to succeed while maintaining a positive attitude toward testing. These assessments allow us to administer shorter tests that take less class time while providing detailed and accurate information about your child’s progress. After the testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s academic growth.
To help your child do their best:
- Ensure they get a good night’s sleep before each test date.
- Have them bring a book to read while they wait for their classmates to finish testing.
We are excited to continue supporting every child’s growth and achievement. By working together, parents and teachers can create a meaningful impact on our children’s education and future success.

GT Referral Process for Spring 2025 – Deadline January 31st
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to announce the opening of Gifted and Talented (GT) referrals for all students in grades K-12 at Harmony Public Schools. In accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students, we are now accepting referrals for GT screening.
Anyone interested in the educational welfare of these students may refer them for assessment. Please note the following:
- Grades 6 and up: Students who were tested in Fall 2024 are not eligible to test in Spring 2025.
- Referral Deadline: All referral forms must be submitted by January 31, 2025.
- Assessment Period: GT assessments will take place in February.
Referral forms are available at the front office and on the school’s website. Completed forms can be returned to the front office or emailed to Mr. Winkler, our GT Coordinator, at swinkler@harmonytx.org.
Parent GT Referral Forms:
Our campus uses the NWEA MAP as a pre-screening criterion for CogAT testing. Students are eligible to be tested if their NWEA MAP score in Reading, Math, or Science is greater than or equal to the 80th percentile. Any nominated ESL or SPED student will be tested regardless of their MAP score.
For more details regarding the screening and identification process, please contact Mr. Winkler via email at swinkler@harmonytx.org.
We look forward to identifying and nurturing the potential of our Gifted and Talented students!
Sincerely,

Visitor Parking Reminder: Reserved Staff Spots
Dear Visitors,
Please remember that numbered parking spots with colors are reserved for staff only:
- Blue numbered spots: Technology Staff
- Red numbered spots: District Personnel
- Green numbered spots: Advancement and Enrichment Staff
To ensure that teachers and staff can arrive on time to support our students, please refrain from using the designated staff parking spots. If you need to park during drop-off or dismissal, kindly use the visitor spaces in front of Building A.
Additionally, please avoid using the staff parking area as a pass-through during busy morning and afternoon times. This area is reserved for staff, and using it for drop-off or pick-up creates delays and traffic congestion, impacting staff arrival and departure.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school running smoothly!
Guidelines for Delivering Lunch to Students
Dear Parents and Guardians,
You are welcome to bring lunch for your child during the school day. However, please note that delivery services like DoorDash, GrubHub, and similar platforms are not permitted to deliver food to the school. If you’d like to bring food from restaurants such as McDonald's, you may do so by personally dropping it off at the Building A front office, where our front office personnel will ensure it is delivered to your child in the cafeteria.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and smooth school environment.
Warm regards,
Harmony School of Technology

NO PLACE FOR HATE
Harmony School of Technology is beginning its journey to become a No Place For Hate school!
No Place for Hate is a collaborative initiative that provides PreK–12 schools with an organizing framework for students, administrators, teachers, and family members to develop long-term solutions for creating and maintaining an inclusive and equitable climate.
No Place for Hate schools receive their designation in the following ways:
• Building inclusive and safe communities in which respect and equity are the goals and where all students can thrive.
• Empowering students, faculty, administration, and family members to take a stand against bias and bullying by incorporating new and existing programs under one powerful message.
• Sending a clear, unified message that all students have a place where they belong and should be treated equitably.
• Aligned with Character School principles
Our first step in this journey is to create a No Place For Hate Committee dedicated to implementing these initiatives. If you are interested in joining this committee, please contact Ms. Johnson at djohnson@harmonytx.org or Dr. Gutierrez at daniel.gutierrez@harmonytx.org.
