Dear HROA families,
We hope you are having a successful and smooth start to the school year and that you know how to solve problems when they arise. Please visit the HROA website and view the Student and Parent Handbook if you have not had a chance to do so.
We are excited to support our students in person with a "phone free" learning environment. We ask that all students have phones turned off and put away in their bags and not on their body while at HROA. Students can also check their phone in at the front desk while in the building.
Daily attendance is important. Please schedule time every weekday to make progress toward your weekly goal!
Sign in and out when at HROA!

Technology
Technology Use and Device Policies for the Upcoming School Year
I’m excited to share some updates about our ongoing project, “A Team Approach to Technology.” Our goal is to support our students' health and well-being by encouraging responsible and balanced technology use at school and in the community. Together, we're working to create a positive environment where our students can thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally.
This past spring, we gathered valuable insights from our community and provided educational resources on the impact of technology use. With this information, we developed a district-wide plan to guide how school devices are used. On June 18th, we held a school board session to review our policies, hear from educators, and discuss student safety and well-being.
As part of our commitment to our core values—student learning and growth, wellness, safety, family and community partnerships, and cultural responsiveness—we’re making some important changes to how we manage school-issued devices:
Our Curriculum and Instruction Office will ensure that all apps on school devices are carefully chosen for their specific educational purpose.
Our Curriculum and Instruction Office is developing a digital citizenship curriculum for K-12 students this year. We will implement that curriculum in the 2025-26 school year. In the meantime, elementary students will continue to receive digital citizenship education during their media time.
Elementary school students will continue to keep their school-issued devices at school, with the option to check them out when necessary.
Devices will be stored in classroom carts and used only when they enhance learning or teach a new skill.
School-issued devices will be used only when they improve the depth of learning or introduce a skill.
In addition, our school will become an environment free of personal electronic devices while students attend in person at HROA and while students engage in online meetings with HROA staff. We encourage students to either leave personal electronic devices at home, keep them stored in their backpacks, or ask the desk to hold them until the end of the day (cell phones, smartwatches, AirPods, or other personal electronic devices).
We aim to make these changes thoughtfully and effectively to boost student engagement, health, and well-being. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or suggestions. We’re here to support you and our students every step of the way.
Family Partnerships
School news
Starting in September, our school will send a monthly newsletter to keep families informed and engaged. On the first Friday of every month, families will receive the newsletter via email and text message. This newsletter will include important updates, upcoming events, and essential information to ensure that you are always up-to-date with what’s happening in our school community. You can also find the newsletters and other school district messages on the school website.
