Franklin Students Build the Future While Studying the Past
This week, our 7th-grade accelerated World History students took on the Sphero Skyscraper Challenge, using blocks and connectors to design and build models of famous skyscrapers—or create their own! Students explored the engineering behind iconic structures like the Empire State Building, CCTV Headquarters, and The Shard, connecting their designs to what they’ve learned about ancient architecture.
Earlier in the year, students studied the construction of Egyptian pyramids and Islamic architecture, examining how civilizations have used innovation, engineering, and design to reflect their culture and values. This hands-on challenge helped them see how those same principles still shape our world today!
Check out the photos to see their incredible designs!
Hands-On Learning with Ms. Schutte and Ms. Reams
Ms. Schutte and Ms. Reams 6th grade classes have been reading “Long walk to water” by Linda Sue Park that tells the story of Salva Dut, one of the “lost boys” of the southern Sudan civil war. In this story it discusses how many families in the Sudan have to walk many miles for water everyday.
The students got to try walking with water jugs of their own on Friday around the track!
Building Community Through Service and Cultural Appreciation
On April 3, Franklin’s National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students had the privilege of participating in Tour of the World at Wildwood Elementary. This incredible event celebrated Reading Month and honored the diverse cultures of our English Language Learner (ELL) students. NJHS students helped serve foods from around the world, played interactive games with elementary students, and gained a deeper understanding of different cultures, all while making meaningful connections with younger students in our district.
Community service is a vital part of student growth, and events like this showcase the kindness, leadership, and inclusivity that make our district so special. A special thank you to Wildwood Principal Jana Babyak, ELL Teacher Lisa Daum, and Karen LeVeck for organizing such an enriching experience!
At all grade levels, we continue to see inspiring acts of service and collaboration that bring our schools and community together. Let’s celebrate these moments and encourage our students to keep making a difference!
Paraprofessional Appreciation Day
April 2nd was Paraprofessional Appreciation Day and we were so happy to celebrate our skilled and selfless staff members. Their direct work with students creates happiness and success. Thank you, Mr. Max, Mrs. Patterson, Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Moore, and Mrs. Jones!
Introducing Crochet Club
Starting Monday April 7th, come hang out with friends old and new, learn how to crochet or share your crochet skills with the group. The hope of this club is that we can enjoy creating together, and use our creativity to build others up. Each week, we will have a featured project, but ultimately you are free to create whatever you'd like. A signed permission form is required to join - they are available in the main office and below.
