Good evening BES families!
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who made our Darlin' Dance a resounding success on Friday night. With a record-breaking turnout of 415, it's clear that this event is a true community effort.
For those of you who are new to our district or have younger children and are just joining our community, it would be good to share the history behind this event!
The Darlin' Dance, a significant part of our community's history, dates back to 2004. Originally held on the Friday before Valentine’s Day, it was later moved to Sweetest Day Eve, where the theme of fall originated, with corn stalks, hay bales, and potted mums found throughout. After the challenges of COVID-19, the dance found a new home in April, continuing its legacy of bringing our community together.
The Darlin' Dance was born out of a collective desire to create a memorable experience for our students, which allowed us to raise funds for a year-end field trip. To make this dream a reality, our fifth-grade teachers came together, organizing fundraising events to ensure financing was not an issue. The Darlin’ Dance became the major fundraiser, a testament to our community's commitment to our children's education and experiences.
Originally introduced as a Daddy-Daughter Dance, the event quickly evolved to embrace the support of several surrounding communities. After two years, we realized this dance was more than just for daddies and daughters. It was for families. It became an opportunity for all families, regardless of their composition, to come together with their children and enjoy a memorable evening out. This inclusive tradition is one we are proud to continue, as it reflects the core of our district and our community.
Now, nineteen dances later, we may have changed a few things, but the event's foundation remains the students, their families, and the communities that continue to support us all. A big thank you to Ms. Tammy Laurin for her dedication to providing this wonderful experience to our community as well as Miss Ashley Criscenti, who has help spearhead this revival the last two years!
Educationally Yours,
Mrs. Johnson
Did you know? MI Safe Storage Law is in effect!
Michigan’s safe storage law, effective February 13, 2024, requires firearm owners to safely store their firearms when someone younger than 18 years old is, or is likely to be, present. This law is intended to protect children from injuries or death due to unintended access to firearms.
If a firearm owner stores or otherwise leaves a firearm unattended on either their property or someone else’s, and a minor is, or likely will be, present, the firearm must be:
- Stored in a locked box or container, such as a gun case, lock box, or gun safe, or
- Unloaded and locked with a locking device, such as a cable lock or trigger lock
If the firearm owner arrives to someone else’s property in their own motor vehicle and plans on leaving the firearm in the vehicle, and a minor is, or likely will be, present, the firearm must be:
- Stored in a locked box or container or unloaded and locked with a locking device, and the motor vehicle must be locked while unattended
