Principal's Message 9.17.21
Dear Lake Grove Families,
Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us at Lake Grove! Throughout the past three weeks, I've gotten a chance to talk with so many of them and learn what makes them happy and proud here at school. We are so fortunate that our kids can articulate many sources of joy and describe times they experience success. Hearing others' perspectives is what allows us to grow and nurture ourselves and each other. I encourage you to reflect on your own sources of happiness and pride, and talk with your children about them. Making time to pause and appreciate positive moments within our busy days is especially important now.
Be well,
Principal Knapp
The rain is coming to Lake Grove
Please make sure your student has proper clothes for recess.
Rain Coats and water resistant shoes are essential for all students.
Recess will still happen even in the rain. Kids will be sent out as a complete class. For health and safety reasons students WILL NOT be able to remain inside. Under extreme weather conditions alternative arrangements will be made.
Along with rainy weather is colder weather. Windows will be kept open so please make sure your student is dressed appropriately for cooler classrooms.
We will continue to eat outdoors as often as possible as we believe that is the safest option.
Lastly, we are eager for our gym to reopen for PE and for now, PE will still be outside. We are regaining the covered play area beginning Monday, so we'll use that for PE if it's too wet to be in the field.

I-Ready Assessments
This Fall, all students in Grades 1-8 will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. i-Ready is a program that will help us determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready allows us to meet your child where they are and provides us with data to inform and tailor instruction to accelerate growth. This is the first of three i-Ready assessments we give each year, and results will be shared with parents in October (at conferences).
The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s skill level. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning.
At Lake Grove, the Fall i-Ready testing window will be between September 7 and September 24.
Ready Schools, Safe Learners Mask Update
On September 3, 2021, OHA updated OAR 333-019-1015 requiring face coverings in all K-12 indoor and outdoor settings. All individuals 5 years of age and older are to wear a face covering outdoors when individuals cannot or do not consistently maintain at least 6 feet of physical distance from people not in their household.
This update means that when our students are outside for any school related activity (including recess) and cannot maintain at least 6 feet of distance between themselves, they will need to wear masks. Students will be told by their teachers that we will start implementing this rule immediately, effective September 10, 2021. This is a great opportunity to discuss safety protocols with your children tonight. Thank you for your partnership!
Attendance Reminders
Bus Procedures
- Thank you for your grace as we collaborate with STA to hire and train new drivers to learn all the new students and their routes.
- Please complete this Google Form to let us know your child's bus stop (cross streets). We will create a bus tag for each rider to help ensure the drivers know when to help them exit the bus. All students who ride the bus now have an assigned seat to help reduce the chances of needing to quarantine if someone who tests positive for Covid were to be on the bus.
- Please be aware that students may only ride the bus to which they are assigned. If you are planning a playdate, please plan to provide your own transportation if your plans include a bus rider.
Medication at School
Paperwork must also be completed if you wish to have your child self-carry an asthma inhaler.
