PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE - Mr. Goodrich
Nederland Middle-Senior HS Community,
I am headed out to Glenwood Springs on Saturday to watch our Ned Mountain Bike team compete in the Colorado State Mountain Biking Championships on Sunday. We have eight student riders competing this year. Our Mountain Bike team is led by coach, Alison Powers. Coach Powers and her staff of assistants do a great job of training and developing our athletes and getting them ready for their different races during the fall. This year we had 15 high school riders and 34 middle school riders. The program has grown and the results are obviously improving. Go Panthers!
Parent Teacher Virtual Conferences
Parent Teacher Virtual Conferences will be held on Tuesday 10/22 you can meet virtually. All conferences are scheduled through Help at Schools. Check your email for your unique link to sign up.
Youth Board Open House
For any student interested in learning more about local government, join the Youth Board for their Open House on Thursday 10/24 from 9am-1pm. The youth board functions as an actual town board for Nederland and is a great opportunity for youth to advocate for themselves and give feedback to the town on their plans and share about things you would like to see implemented for the success of the town in the future. This open house will be a great opportunity to learn more about the youth board. You will get to meet with town officials and boards, tour town hall, and lunch will be provided afterwards. If interested, scan the QR code on the flyer in the Panther post or reach out to Max at max@teensinc.org.
Enjoy the beauty of the mountains this weekend,
Gavan

COUNSELING - Ms. Pries
Coming on October 23: 10th and 11th graders take the October PSAT National Merit Scholarship Program Qualifying Exam on Wednesday, 10/23 @ 9:30am. The National Merit Scholarship Program is recognized worldwide as a prestigious award. For all 10th and 11th graders, top scores allow examinees to qualify for several corporate scholarship awards. All students can also opt in to the College Board Student Search Service to connect with colleges through the Big Future app. See more information in the PSAT National Merit Student Guide here. The exam is $18. Parents pay on Revtrak, on the Testing Tile. Deadline for payment is October 23. 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 12th grade students have classes as usual.
9th, 10th & 11th graders: Broomfield High School, Wednesday, October 30. Broomfield hosts an In-State College fair featuring representatives from public and private universities located within Colorado. 6:00 - 7:30pm.
8th Graders: Soon, 8th graders will complete a lesson with Ms. Jill, relating to personal traits that impact making choices in career fields. 8th graders will complete a career interest profile survey in Naviance, which generates results based on John Holland’s RIASEC codes, and offers possible career options that integrate those personal interests. Florida has a great site that outlines college majors that align to the RIASEC traits. https://www.fau.edu/career/students/majors-by-holland-type/
On Monday, October 28 @ 8:30am, we will follow that up with an 8th grade tour to Boulder Tech! The field trip permission form is here: Boulder Technical Education Center is BVSD’s central technology and career training center that serves students in BVSD high schools. Lunch is included. At Boulder Tech, students gain opportunities to earn college credits and industry certifications in career fields such as: Biomedical Science, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Emergency Medical Services, Teaching, Video Production, Criminal Justice, Auto Service or Collision Repair, Culinary Arts, Construction, or Welding. Students typically attend Boulder Tech during high school in junior or senior year, so visiting now allows for early planning for students. Students attending Boulder Tech from Nederland, receive free BVSD transportation from campus to campus.
Seniors have been busy meeting up with Ms. Jill and working on completing college applications. See the college application timeline- we are on steps 4 - 8. Financial AID: FAFSA is slated to open “on or before December 1”. See the FAFSA.gov site and sign up for alerts. Nederland 12th graders will apply for the 2025-26 FAFSA, because they enter college in FALL of 2025.
AP EXAMS. Exam registration payments due by October 31.
Register for your high school exams now, using the exam sign up sheet 2024/25 AP Exam Payment form OR pay online: https://bvsd.revtrak.net/high-schools/neh/ select the “testing” app tile. Why take an AP Exam? Entering college with credit you’ve already earned through AP can save you time and money—for example, you might be able to skip introductory courses or even graduate early. Check the AP Exam Credit Search.
College Board reports that no matter their score, students who complete an AP® course and exam benefit from their AP experience. In fact, even students who score a 1 or 2 on an AP Exam are more likely to attend college and graduate on time (than academically similar students who don’t take AP). In a recent survey of nearly 2,000 first-year college students, over 90% of respondents who earned an AP Exam score of 2 said they’re doing well (or very well) in college courses that cover similar content.
