AP COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENTS EXPLORE ENGINEERING DAY
On Monday, October 28, six students from AP Computer Science Principles and AP Computer Science A attended the 2024 Women in Engineering and Computing Career Day at UMASS Amherst. Students chose between a number of sessions to attend that covered many aspects of engineering and computer science: designing a floating wind turbine, building an energy efficient model home, and using material science to make silly putty. After touring the engineering labs, they made their way to the 23rd floor of the library to take in a 360 degree view of the Connecticut River Valley.
Thank you to computer science teacher, MR. RICK GIFFORD for making this valuable opportunity available to our students!

WHO SAID HALLOWEEN WAS JUST FOR THE LITTLES?!
The CLASS of 2025 did not disappoint at the annual SENIOR MASQUERADE held on October 30, 2024. The SENIOR MASQUERADE is an annual SMHS tradition... a well-attended, unforgettable evening filled with lots of candy(!), great music, fun prizes and creative costumes.
CHICAS FOR CHANGE will be hosting a period product drive from NOVEMBER 4 through NOVEMBER 15. Collection bins will be outside the main office and in MS. CAHILL-FOLEY'S classroom, A202. All products will go directly toward stocking the period product dispensers in the SMHS student bathrooms.
If you have any products to spare, the chicas would be forever grateful!

BARNSTABLE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE
CYBER SAFETY PRESENTATION FOR GRADES 7, 8, 9
The Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office collaborates with local schools throughout Cape Cod and the Islands by providing in-person internet safety programming for youth. The goal of the
Cyber-safety Presentation is to inform and empower young people to stay safe while using technology.
The program consists of a one hour presentation by members of the District Attorney’s Community Outreach Program along with the Assistant District Attorney. Included in the discussion will be the impact that posts and social media use can have on students' future as well as the dangers of sending inappropriate photos or messages, also known as “sexting." By sharing the risks associated with social media, gaming and use of digital devices, the aim is to encourage students to make safe decisions to reduce harm and prevent exploitation and cyberbullying.
If you would prefer that your student NOT ATTEND the Cyber-Safety presentation on November 5, please call (508) 888-4900 or email jnelson@sandwich.k12.ma.us by November 4, 2024.

Grade 7 students spent a great day at CAMP BURGESS last week! Organized by grade 7 science teachers, RENEE FUDALA and ERIN MELL-TAYLOR, students enjoyed a variety of team-building activities and got to experience physics in action by rock wall climbing! By creating opportunities for students to build trusting relationships with their classmates, we aim to cultivate an inclusive school community where all students feel a sense of belonging.
