Strive to be an Independent & Critical Thinker
Thunderbird Families,
Welcome to Week 2 of the 4th quarter! We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend.
- 3rd 9-week report cards are available in Parent Vue.
- Testing is around the corner so we are updating and checking all student computers. Please send your child to school daily with their computer and charger. Big thanks to Mr. Adam and Ms. Salopek for helping us get ready for smooth testing sessions!
- Thank you to STUCO, parent volunteers, Ms. Perez-Luna, Mr. Brown-Owens, Ms. Steward, Mr. Torres, and everyone else that worked to make the "Wish We Were in Hawaii" dance a success on March 28th!
- Our full evacuation drill on 3/28 went smoothly. It took a total of 45 minutes to initiate the drill, account for all students at Mesilla Elementary, and walk back/account for all students in Zia classrooms. If for some reason a threat prevented us from using Mesilla Elementary as our evacuation location, RGPI and Mesilla Park would be secondary and tertiary options depending on the conditions. We cannot say enough positive things about our students, staff, law enforcement, fire department, Mesilla Elementary, and district partners throughout this coordinated effort.
- 8th grade Track is now practicing. We look forward to your first meet!
- Best of luck to our Zia FFA teams that will compete at State on the NMSU campus later this week!
Dream, Believe, Achieve!

8th Grade Chihuahua Field Trip Expectations & Eligibility
Last Wednesday, the 8th grade teachers and admin teams met with the future Class of 2028 to discuss eligibility and expectations for their upcoming reward field trip. We want all of our kids to earn this privilege and make some memories with their classmates before middle school comes to an end. Please encourage your kiddo to attend school regularly, get to class on time, work hard and make good choices! May 8th is just around the corner!
Current 7th Graders Interested in Accelerating to High School Algebra as an 8th Grader
The letter below was sent home with all 7th graders last week. In order to be considered for placement in Algebra I (high school credit course) as an 8th grader, your kiddo must take a placement exam on May 1st. Please read the letter as a family and send back to your child's math teacher with signature no later than April 8th. Algebra is not a requirement for any middle school student, it is only for those interested in accelerating.
Contact a Counselor if your child is interested in joining mariachi next year!
My child cannot make it to BUG. Are there other options?
If your kiddo cannot attend BUG for tutoring and homework support, please encourage use of PAPER, a 24/7 online tutor available through the Clever app in Canvas.
