The Greater Houston Chapter is pleased to offer our Fall Lunch & Learn Training Series which will take place virtually from October 5-9, 2020.
We are offering one training during each weekday on topics that we know will benefit early childhood programs during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please see the list of sessions with descriptions below.
FORMAT: Virtual Trainings via ZOOM
COST: $7 per training or all five trainings for $30
CLOCK HOURS: One Hour for each Session (Maximum of 5 possible)
LIMITED REGISTRATION! Ensure your spot by REGISTERING TODAY!
*A certificate for one clock hour will be provided at the end of each training session.
*Sessions will take place via Zoom (Zoom information will be emailed several days prior to training session taking place).

Monday, October 5th, 2020
Training Title: Fostering Resilience and Self-Regulation: The Four “C’s” Children Need for Emotional Well-Being
Trainer: Diane Goyette, M.A.
Time: 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM
Session Description
Young children need four essential things from adults for healthy emotional development: Connection, co-regulation, compassion and capacity-building. All children need a close relationship with at least one caring adult, help with calming, and to be treated with empathic concern, especially when experiencing distress. Children also need adult support to become more capable of handling future stressful situations appropriately. In this session, learn practical strategies for giving children what they really need, and leave ready to foster children’s resilience and self-regulation, to handle and prevent tantrums and meltdowns, and to support adults’ emotional health as well, including yours!

Training Title: COVID-19 and Child Care Licensing: What You Need to Know

Session Description
Child care programs in Houston are open despite the COVID-19 pandemic. However, many of them are struggling to meet the necessary health and safety measures while providing a daily routine that understands Child Care Licensing’s requirements during this challenging time. Join us as we talk through these challenges while providing valuable information for your program.

Training Title: Mindfulness – The Heart of Positive Adult Child Interactions During COVID Times
Trainer: Mary Margaret Wilson, Conscious Discipline

Session Description
This session will discuss the connections between Adult Mindfulness and the impact on positive Adult-Child Interactions. We are going to share the 3Rs of practices that yield high quality Mindful Adult-Child interactions especially during COVID times.

Training Title: The Impact of Adverse Child Experiences (ACES) during COVID-19
Trainer: Heather Wells, Brain Balance
Time: 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM
Session Description
For many children, the pandemic is an Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) and, therefore, detrimental to their mental health and social-emotional, behavioral, and cognitive development. Join us to learn the signs along with what you can do to ensure kids thrive now and in the future.
