Barretts Bobcat Bulletin
May 13th - May 19th
Good morning Barretts families,
Please look over the Talent Show Schedule. It has been updated since last week!
On Tuesday, May 21st, we will be having our "escape" intruder drill as a building. We will have Manchester Police on site with us to support through our drill. Here is the link to the presentation we will be reviewing with students to prepare for this drill.
We look forward to some honoring some amazing people including Mrs. Russell (please see invite below) and feel free to share with alumni families. We will also be celebrating our volunteers! Please be on the look out for a special invitation to all of our volunteers who have volunteered in our building this year to come join us on May 23rd.
Our 5th grade will be MAP testing this week.
In partnership,
Dr. Melissa Hellwig

BARRETTS TALENT SHOW
At Barretts, in music class we have class talent shows twice a year (before winter break and before summer break) to give students confidence performing in front of their peers. Your child's spring class talent show will be performed live in front of only your child's classmates during their music time listed here.
If your child has a unique talent that is impossible to perform in person (ex. ice skating, horse riding, bike tricks, trampoline, etc.) they may choose to record a video to post to Flip and the class will watch the video together during their class talent show. Click this link for more information about the talent show and Flip. Please let me know if you have any questions. Participating in the class talent show is not required but many students choose to participate in every class. I look forward to seeing your child perform!
The PTO wants your Feedback!
Free Survival Night for First 50 Families:
The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is here to serve families, teachers & staff, and the overall Barretts community. Your answers will directly impact how we plan and execute for the future.
As an added bonus, the first 50 families to respond will get a FREE Survival Night on Friday June 14th! You will be able to drop your kids off at Barretts Elementary for a free movie night so you can have the night off to enjoy!
Annual Avoid the Summer Slide Event
Dear Barretts Community:
The Barretts reading team is working on planning an event to kick off our summer reading program. On May 17th we will be holding our annual Avoid the Summer Slide Event. The meaning behind this event is to get our students excited to read over the summer to avoid any reading regression. Our goal is to have every student go home with a few books that they can read over the summer to help avoid the slide.
The reading team is asking for your help to make it possible for every student to receive books. We are requesting that each family donate 1, or more, gently used books in good condition. Please send books in by May 10th and the reading team will get them organized for our big event!
On the day of this event, students will get to slide and shop! They will get to go down a giant blow-up slide to remind them of what happens when we don’t read over the summer. They will then have the opportunity to bookshop for books to read over the summer. Each child will also receive a bag with a reading log and information for parents to keep their child excited about reading. Kids will be offered an incentive to return the reading log and books at the beginning of the next school year.
Please contact Tiffany Markus at tmarkus@parkwayschools.net if you can help at this event on May 17th. Please start sending in your gently used books so we can make this event a success!
Thank you,
Tiffany Markus
