Lincoln's Weekly Bulletin
10-11-2024
Hello Lincoln Families,
We are excited to announce an important initiative to provide every student with assemblies focused on Anti-Bullying, E-bike Safety, Drug Prevention, Inclusion and Belonging and other essential safety topics from your very own student services. These assemblies are designed to equip our students with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the challenges they may encounter. Our experienced OUSD staff, who are passionate about these topics, will lead the sessions and engage students in meaningful and impactful discussions here at our school. Today, our students participated in a school assembly focusing on Drug Awareness and Prevention that educated students on the dangers of drug use with a focus on Fentanyl. The presenter also shared the importance of making healthy choices and provided resources for support and prevention. This year our students have participated in the E-Bike safety, Inclusion and Belonging and Drug Prevention. Our goal continues to provide a campus that is a safe and welcoming environment for all students. On October 17th, families across the nation are invited to participate in the Great American ShakeOut, a nationwide earthquake drill designed to help people practice essential safety steps. It's a valuable opportunity to teach your loved ones how to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On," ensuring everyone is better prepared in the event of an earthquake. By joining millions of others in this important drill, your family will learn crucial survival skills while strengthening your overall emergency response plan. Don’t miss this chance to take part in a simple yet effective way to stay safe and ready for any potential disaster! PSA – Earthquake Safety Procedure Finally, please join us this Monday from 5:30-7:00pm at Oceanside High School for WAVE. See Flyers English. Spanish Have a wonderful weekend!!!

A Safety Tool With Instructional Benefits
Oceanside Unified is utilizing a state-of-the-art cloud-based camera system across our schools. This new camera system combines machine learning and artificial intelligence to deliver actionable insights from video data, significantly enhancing our campus security.
Installations will soon begin over the next few weeks and have been successfully completed at a number of other schools across OUSD, including two successful pilot schools last year .
Lincoln Middle School will use an advanced-technology system that offers a variety of benefits including enhanced accessibility of the instruction being delivered, and the capability to deliver an emergency notification system to every classroom.
This enhancement serves as an update to our current bell and intercom system. Each classroom teacher will have a device on a lanyard that amplifies sound throughout the
classroom during every lesson. Every student, no matter where they sit, will be able to clearly hear the teacher and information being taught. In addition, the teacher has the option to use a classroom-installed camera to video record their lessons by pressing a button on the device, or to activate in the event of an emergency. This option allows the teacher to practice and improve instructional approaches by sharing with colleagues, as well as post lessons for students to
review if they missed a day of instruction.
Media Guidelines
Setting media guidelines for kids helps create healthy habits by limiting screen time and promoting physical activity and social interaction. It also encourages children to engage with educational, age-appropriate content, fostering critical thinking. These guidelines protect kids from potential issues like sleep disruption and attention problems, supporting their overall well-being.

Pedestrian Safety
WHEN YOU ARE WALKING
Be predictable. Follow the rules of the road and obey signs and signals.
Walk on the sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk and you have to walk on the road, walk facing traffic. Always walk as far from traffic as possible.
Cross at the corner. Cross at crosswalks or intersections wherever possible. This is where drivers expect to see pedestrians.
Stop and look left-right-left. Before crossing the street, pause, then look left-right-then left again until no cars are coming.
Make eye contact. Never assume drivers see you. Make eye contact with drivers as they approach you and make sure you are seen.
Keep your eyes up, ears open, and off your phone. Don’t talk/text or listen to music when crossing the street.
Be safe. Be seen. Wear bright clothing during the day. At night, wear reflective material or carry a light. This will caution drivers to be careful because they can see someone walking ahead.
WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING
Drive alert. Look for pedestrians – expect to see them at corners and marked crossings. Stop for them when they cross the street.
Slow down. The faster you’re going, the longer it takes to react and brake. Slow down when you’re in an area where pedestrians are likely to be.
Never pass a car stopped for pedestrians – it’s against the law, and it’s highly dangerous for those crossing the street. Never pass a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk. There may be people crossing that you can’t see.
Be extra cautious when backing up – pedestrians can walk into your path.
Avoid distractions. The call/text/tweet can wait. Don’t let your phone or anything else distract you from focusing on the road and those around you.
