2023 - 2024
Week of March 4 - 8, 2024
A Week
Greetings, White Marsh Families!
Welcome to March! Believe it or not, there are only 3 weeks left in the 3rd Marking Period. The Marking Period ends on March 22. Please be checking with your student and his/her teacher to make sure there are no missing assignments. This week is National School Breakfast Week. To celebrate, SMCPS will offer breakfast on Wednesday free for all students!
Tuesday is Dress for Success Day! We encourage the Bears to participate!
On Wednesday, our 5th grade Bears will begin state testing in the area of Science, also known as the MISA assessment. This testing will be take place periodically over the next few weeks. Please make sure your students come to school well rested, and with a charged laptop. The PTA will meet on Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm.
Thursday is our Winter Concert! The Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Bears are excited to perform for you! Doors will open at 9:40, and the program will begin promptly at 10:00 am. Please plan to walk around the side of the building and enter through the gym doors. Those Bears not performing will have watched the program previously, and will not be permitted to leave class to sit with families at the concert.
On Friday, there is a WMES Site Based Volunteer Training at 9:30. Remember, all WMES volunteers are required to complete this training annually (in addition to being a SMCPS approved volunteer) prior to volunteering.
Have a great week!
Summer Sports Academies!

Chronic Absenteeism
Chronic Absenteeism: Students are chronically absent when absent 10% or more of the school days while enrolled at that school. For example, a student who is registered to attend a school for 30 days and who is absent 3 of those 30 days is considered chronically absent.
WMES will follow up with chronically absent students through the Pupil Services Team, Pupil Personnel Worker, and the Department of Student Services. In order to reduce the number of our students with Chronic Absenteeism, incentives to encourage good attendance include participation in the Bear Crawl, Running Club, and School Dance.
Text Alerts
SMCPS Text Alerts are a great way to get information quickly. They are not sent often, and usually only in the event of an unexpected school delay or closure. On occasion, WMES will send a text alert about a late bus, substitute bus, or school event. Click the link for information about registering for text alerts.
