Hosford Middle School
January 6th - 10th
Dear Families,
I hope you have a had a wonderful winter break with your family! I have deeply appreciated the time to rest and lean into family, friends, and good food. Tomorrow, we start back to school to finish out quarter 2. This month is sure to fly by with just 3 weeks until the end of the quarter.
On the last two days of the quarter, January 23rd and 24th, we will be completing Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) testing. These assessments are correlated to the Oregon State Assessment and tell student proficiency compared to nationally normed data. The assessment scores are used to determine placement for Compacted Math in 7th grade, which allows students to take Algebra 1/2 in 8th grade for high school credit. These test scores also impact inclusion into math and reading intervention classes. Please talk to your child about doing their best on these assessments and have students to school on-time on each of these days. We will be running a modified schedule to allow for uninterrupted testing in the morning. If you have any questions, please let us know!
This month, we will also review school wide expectations and be working with the students on universal quiet signals to gain student attention. The students and staff have identified this as an area of growth for our community. We will be working together to norm one person talking at a time, listening to the speaker, and thinking about what the speaker is saying. This active listening skill is part of our school climate goal to ensure all student are able to focus on their job of learning and being an amazing Hosford Husky student.
Happy New Year to you and your family, and thank you for being an amazing part of our community!
Jill Liddle, Principal

PTA Clothing Closet
Every year, each PPS school sends 5 to 6 volunteers to staff the Clothing Closet at the Marshall Campus (Benson) High School. This is a fun event where we staff the Clothing Closet as a group!
Volunteers will help students shop and find clothes that make them feel good or they will sort donations and organize the shop.
The PTA Clothing Closet is 100% volunteer supported and serves over 1000 students per year! If
volunteers don’t show up, students don’t get to shop. It is okay if volunteers cannot stay the entire time.
Any amount of time given is helpful!
