A Note from Mrs. Frees
Hello CFL Families,
As we head into the last chunk of the school year, we will look at our most recent data to make sure we are intentional with our instruction and students are continuing to make gains with ELA and math skills and concepts. With just over eight weeks of school left, students and staff will start to reflect on what we have accomplished this year. I'm beyond proud of the students for all they have achieved this year. I want to thank our teachers for all the support, encouragement and growth of our students academically, socially and emotionally this year. We cannot do this alone. Partnering with families is a critical piece to helping develop students with strong character, making informed decisions, and empathizing with others.
Please stay in contact with your child's teacher if there is anything at home that may be impacting your child's life at school. Also, if a teacher reaches out to you for a meeting, take advantage of this opportunity to show your child that together, we all care and value them as individuals. I look forward to what the last bit of school has in store for us.
Happy Spring everyone!
Respectfully,
Kim Frees
Principal
Office News
We would like to encourage our parents to make a plan with your child in morning regarding the end of the school day. If there is a change it is ok to tell the teacher but very important you also notify the office preferably before 2:00 pm.
This will allow us to communicate with the staff in a timely manner and help insure your student knows that there is a change. In order to keep everyone safe and stay on schedule we strongly discourage taking students off the bus once they have boarded.
Please remember that 3:15 pm is the end of our school day and unless previously scheduled, pickups between 3:00 pm and release time can be distracting as teachers finishing lessons and preparing for release time. If you are checking your student our early pleae let us know by 2:00 pm.
Goal Setting at CFL
At CFL all students, preschool through first grade, set individual literacy goals. When they meet their goal they sign their name on a frog and put it up on their class lily pad. The lily pads hang in our hallway and we are excited to see them filled up with goal frogs.
We set a school goal of students meeting 300 goals. We are only 100 goals away! Great job students! Keep up the great work!
April Intervention News
Welcome to Spring. This is probably the most important time of the school year for your child. There is so much going on. So much fun to be had. We have field day, and field trips, as well as warm weather to look forward to. In the midst of all of the craziness it is so important that we find time to spend reading with our children. Spring weather will come and go, and there will be many field days, but nothing can take the place of the importance of helping our children learn to read so they can secure a sound future. Each day we don’t read with our children is a missed opportunity to help them in ways that can never be erased. This might sound a little dramatic, but remember I am a reading specialist, and I do really care about each and every child at our school. My goal is for all to experience the love of reading.
Many people think of spring as a time of new beginnings. Why not start a new habit in your house? I promise that if you can find even 10 minutes a day to read with your child you will be helping them in more ways than can be counted. You don’t need any special skills, or materials to do this. All you need is a few books, your child and a comfy spot. If you already tuck your child into bed each evening, try starting just a few minutes earlier so that you can take a moment and enjoy a book together. Let me know how it goes, as I said, my hope is that everyone can experience the love of a good book.
On another note, on April 30 kids will take their final benchmark on the Star Reading Test. This is an important test as you can imagine. This test will help to determine how your child is progressing in reading. Please try to make sure that your child is rested and ready, so they can do their best. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. They will have more information on how you can help prepare your child.

ELL News
Wow! Time is flying by so fast! Like my kids tell my clock, “Clock, you go too fast!” We have had a great year so far and we will be continuing to press on towards our learning goal. We have been studying the seasons and all the fun things that go along with that. We have also been working a lot on our vocabulary, prepositions and adjectives.
We listen, speak, read and write about what we are learning.
Please take a the button link below that gives you strategies to work with your child at home. The resource is called, “5 Ways to Practice Reading at Home” because we all know the importance of reading to your child!
Thanks again for entrusting me with your beautiful children. I really enjoy each and everyone of them , and their unique personalities.

Hello CFL Families,
This month in Physical Education we will be doing some gymnastics. We will cover basic stunts, jumps, rolls and partner work. During this unit we will also cover ways to be a good teammate and how working with others can be enjoyable. Please send your kiddos to school everyday with tennis shoes for class. This is the first reminder that Field Day will be on the last day of school, more information to come later. As always, reach out to me with any questions.

Preschool News
Hello Preschool Families!
As I’m sure you know, we are well into our Recycling Unit. As we study trash and garbage and how we can reduce, reuse, and recycle, we will learn concepts and skills in literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and technology. We will also be developing thinking skills to observe, investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas.
We need your help gathering items to investigate. We’ll need many different objects and pictures related to trash and garbage. We will begin our study by collecting them. Here’s a list of suggested items, but you may also send in others not on the list as long as they are clean and safe.
We are also developing thinking skills as we observe, investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions, and test our ideas. Item to bring: Plastic bottles, small boxes, cans, water bottles, empty toilet paper rolls
