Information About Back to School Supply Fairs
________
Dear U-46 Families,
We hope you are having a great summer! The first day of school is less than a month away - Tuesday, Aug. 13 - and we want to share some information with you about school supplies.
U-46 will provide school supplies for students entering kindergarten through 6th grade, as it did for the last several school years. Families will just need to provide a backpack. Elementary students will receive their supplies at their schools once classes get underway.
Students in middle and high school should visit their school's website for details on the necessary school supplies.
There are several community events scheduled in the next few weeks in which area families can receive school supplies for free. Here are some of the details and links for more information:
Project Backpack
Project Backpack will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until supplies last, on Saturday, Aug. 3, at Elgin Community College’s (ECC) Spartan Events Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Building J, in Elgin. Students who provide proof of residency or school enrollment in District U-46 for fall 2024 will receive a backpack with school supplies to start a successful school year.
Backpacks are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis, and there is a limit of one backpack per student. Rather than waiting in line, families will receive a ticket with a number on it when they arrive at ECC. They can then walk around the event, and enjoy games, activities, and learning about community resources, until their number is called to receive a backpack.
For more information please visit www.project-backpack.org or call ECC’s Student Life Office at 847-214-7370.
