Good morning.
Last night, during the Q&A portion of a community book talk, a parent mentioned a concern about her child. Since then, we have received questions from members of the community regarding support for this family.
For reasons of confidentiality and out of respect for privacy, we cannot discuss any specific student situation.
As I mentioned yesterday, our school districts always prioritize the safety and security of our students and staff. We use all available school-wide resources to provide positive interventions, risk and threat assessments, psychological support, counseling services, and community partnerships to support our students and families in need.
We also have confidential reporting systems in place for all of our schools:
We all play a role in school safety and well-being. Please remain observant and let us know if you become aware of something that makes you feel uncomfortable. If you see something, say something.
Our school staff is here to listen, guide, and provide the necessary resources to ensure each student’s well-being. We encourage families to have conversations with their children about the importance of seeking support when needed. Whether it’s a trusted teacher, advisor, or school social worker, we want every student to feel comfortable reaching out for help when facing challenges, no matter how big or small. In addition to our school resources, students and families can also access Safe2Help Illinois for confidential assistance, 24/7.
As a community, it is our shared responsibility to lean in to support all families in our districts. Thank you for your continued partnership in creating a nurturing and supportive school environment for all.
Sincerely,
Matthew L. Montgomery, Ph.D.
