Why and How?
Began as a open conflict between the 13 colonies and Great Britan. The war started as a disagreement over the way Great Britan treated the colonies versus the way the colonies felt they should be treated. Americans felt they deserved all the rights of Englishmen.
Important People
- George Washington- Commander in chief of the American forces during the Revolutionary War.
- John Adams- A delegate from Massachusetts in the Continental Congresses.
- Samuel Adams- Organized the first Committee of Correspondence of Boston.
- Benjamin Franklin- A delegate for the Second Continental Congress and drew the famous “Join or Die” political cartoon.
- Thomas Jefferson- Drafted the Declaration of Independence.
Events:
Effects and The Final Result
Effects- The British gave America all of the land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mississippi River, from Canada to the north and Florida to the south. Created the Us. Allowed now to trade freely with any other country. New government took control. No more British rule.
