Ensuring Safe Driving Practices During Drop-off and Pick-up
With the first day of school just 10 days away, I want to take a moment to address an important matter that directly concerns the safety of our students and the entire school community. Please take a few minutes to carefully read and digest the information in this brief newsletter.
The safety of our students is of paramount importance to us, and we must all work together to ensure their well-being during drop-off and pick-up times. As you are aware, the flow of traffic around the school premises can become quite busy during these times. We kindly request your full cooperation and adherence to safe driving practices to ensure the safety of all students, staff, and parents.
Here are a few reminders and guidelines to help maintain a safe environment:
Follow Designated Drop-off and Pick-up Zones: Please use the designated areas for drop-off and pick-up. These zones have been carefully planned to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and the safety of everyone involved.
Stay in Your Vehicle: While in the drop-off or pick-up line, please remain in your vehicle. This helps prevent congestion and reduces the risk of accidents. If your child is not yet able to exit or enter your vehicle, backpack included, without adult assistance, please do not use the drive-thru lanes. Instead, please park on the street and enjoy these sweet opportunities to walk your child to and from campus.
Obey Speed Limits: Respect the posted speed limits around the school premises. Lowering your speed ensures better visibility and allows for quick reactions if needed.
No Cell Phone Use: Avoid using your cell phone while driving on school property. Distractions can lead to dangerous situations.
Use Crosswalks: If you need to accompany your child across the street, use designated crosswalks. This sets an example for our young learners and enhances their safety.
Be Patient and Courteous: Drop-off and pick-up times can be hectic, but it's essential to remain patient and courteous to fellow parents, staff, and volunteers.
Seat Belts Always: Ensure that everyone in the vehicle is wearing their seat belt properly, regardless of the distance traveled.
By following these simple yet crucial practices, we can collectively create a safer environment for our children. It takes a village, and we truly appreciate your commitment to the well-being of our Wildwood community.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Let's work together to make drop-off and pick-up times as safe and efficient as possible.
Warmly,
Mr. Lynch
See Something - Say Something
The safety of students entering and leaving campus is a shared responsibility. Each parent/guardian's willingness and commitment to abide by the rules makes a difference. We understand that most members of our school community follow the traffic and parking rules, and we ask you to join our Tiger family pledge to gently correct others when correction is needed: "If you see something, say something".
Just like our students, adults worry about reactions when correcting peers, but we encourage you to consider the cost, and be gentle and kind in your approach with each other. Together, we can keep our school access areas safe and build community in the process.
The three greatest areas of concern are pictured below along with the rules for each area. Please familiarize yourself with these mandates and join us in our efforts to keep students safe.
