Art
Students in 6th and 7th grade are exploring the world of computer-aided design (CAD) as they create their own 3D models for printing. Sixth graders are designing unique keychains, while seventh graders are bringing their imaginative monster figures to life. These projects follow the same design process used by toy designers, architects, automotive designers, and more. This exciting opportunity was made possible by a grant from the Vigo County Education Foundation, which funded the installation of three 3D printers in the art room.

Buddy Bench from SDI
Steel Dynamics Flat Roll Group Heartland Division donates a Buddy Bench
Students at West Vigo Middle School will benefit from the bench, which encourages students to sit if they’re in need of a friend or moment to talk. The bench will be installed near the school’s tennis courts to be utilized during outdoor breaks, recess and after school activities. Members of the Middle School Student Council (and staff advisors) met with Steel Dynamics representatives to learn more about the industry and how the company got involved with the kindness outreach. AGT winner and WVMS Custodian Richard Goodall joined the unveiling, along with VCSC Board member Carey LaBella and Assistant Principal Angie Bark. Thank you SDI for gifting 4 benches to VCSC within the last year! We’re grateful for your partnership and commitment to the community!

Athletic Information
General Information
Basketball season is underway at West Vigo. Our 6th grade boys and girls teams as well as our 7th and 8th grade boys teams will start play in late October. You can check eventlink.com or our school website to see our schedules. 7th and 8th grade girls basketball will start on January 6th. We also will begin our wrestling season on January 6th. Remember for all sports you must have a physical on file in FinalForms to try out. If you have any questions please contact our athletic director, Mr. Williams, at erw@vigoschools.org.
If you are picking your athlete up from a practice behind the school, please find a parking space and wait for your child to come to the vehicle. It can become congested quickly if parents are stopping in the drive way.
JV volleyball had an amazing season with such a young team. They successfully beat Sarah Scott and Otter Creek during regular season and Woodrow Wilson during the COA tournament. They were able to reach the second round of County only to be narrowly beaten by Woodrow Wilson in a nail biting 3 sets. I cannot wait to see how this team improves through the next few years. ~Mrs. Williams
WVMS Varsity volleyball finished their season on Saturday, October 5th. Serving was a strength for many of our athletes including Bella Fabbri, Bralyn Blystone, Sophia Scully, and Morgan Ramsey. At the net, Averie Dougherty, Molly Williams, and Abi Jones worked hard to block and hit. Brinleigh Godfrey-Pruiett, Blakely Deal, Ella Boyles, Maddy Robinson, Adalyn Harrington, Kinsley Higgins, and Leela Jones improved on passing and hitting. Many of the girls showed hard work and improved their skills as the season progressed. We look forward to watching the 8th graders move on to high school next year. This season, we worked with Coach Wright at West Vigo High School to provide conditioning and open gym opportunities for 8th grade volleyball players. She has invited the middle school team to attend their PINK game on Thursday, October 10th at West Vigo High School.
Boys Tennis
I want to start off by thanking the parents for raising such wonderful boys. You made my job so much easier. I also want to thank the tennis players for a wonderful season. West Vigo has not been known for its tennis prowess, but in the past five years West Vigo has won the county championship two times and finished second three times. I have no doubt in my mind that this team is going to win the county championship next year. Thanks for everything! ~Coach Childress
Co-Ed Cross Country
Cross Country had an amazing year this year with 29 runners for both the girls and boys team. County JV runner Autumn Wurth took 10th place and Varsity runner Jaxson Lozier took 6th. Eleven runners qualified to run varsity at the Indiana State Middle School Championships. Jaxson Lozier, Dawson Mundy, Charles Abrams, Brett Brock, Levi Graves, Zaiden Bahr, Amelia Layton, Breanna Southard, Charlotte Lenderman, Calli French, and Isabella DiCenso. At statem Jaxson Lozier came in 38th out of 400+runners. Good season cross country!!!
Happy Birthday to Mr. Richard!
