3. Superintendent's Report
He congratulated Dr. Filippi on becoming the new president of the Deerfield Rotary Club.
Dr. Brett recently presented to Rotary about her school's "Bubbles & Books" event. Wilmot has had two successful events this summer where they have opened their doors to the community to gather in the library.
We had a regional safety & security meeting in this past month involving school districts, libraries, law enforcement agencies and others. We meet to discuss topical and pertinent issues. It is disappointing that we do not have such regional meetings more often on topics related strictly to academics. It's the world we live in that we have to devote extraordinary resources to this.
The 109 Way magazine was recently distributed to homes and businesses in our attendance boundaries. You can pick up a copy at district office, village hall, the Patty Turner Center, Jewett Center, and the Deerfield Public Library.
Next week, families will get a hello from their principal and the Back To School checklist. On August 8th, there will be a mass notification test. New this year, we are having all families go through the info verification process. It is important that we are able to reach all active families in our district and sometimes information changes.
We are heading into the home stretch of summer. We only have 36 working days from the last day of school until when teachers come back to get our buildings ready. There's just 11 days until New Teacher Orientation.
We have a "big rock" this year. Our leadership team and Board of Education is reading "The Anxious Generation." We want to start and develop the conversation about this very important subject with our families and our community. You can find resources on dps109.org.
