ThunderRidge Weekly Update
December 6, 2024
Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving break with your family and friends.
It's crunch time! There's only one week of regular classes to go before we begin Fall Semester Finals! In addition to Seminar and Grizzly Hour, there are several opportunities for students to get help and prepare:
- Tutoring by NHS students in room C108 during Grizzly Hour on Thursday, 12/12
- NHS Finals Study Fest on Friday, 12/13 (see details below)
- Each day of finals week, students can travel during mandatory Grizzly Hour (Access) to visit teachers with questions.
Please encourage your students to take advantage of these opportunities so they can do their best on their exams. If they have any questions, please have them reach out to their teachers. Please remind your student that attendance during Grizzly Hour/Access (7:40-8:40am, Monday through Thursday of Finals week) is required, and attendance will be taken each day.
This is also a good time to remind parents and students that, throughout the school year, attendance is required for both Grizzly Hour and Seminar. Grading for these classes is as follows:
-Grizzly Hour Tuesday (Advisement) - Students receive a Pass (P) or Fail (F) grade for Advisement based on 30% completion of work AND 70% attendance. For sophomores, it is 60% completion of work and 40% attendance due to the Sophomore Project.
-Grizzly Hour Thursday (Access) - This class is a Pass (P) or Fail (F) class based on 70% attendance for all grades.
-Seminar -This class is a Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U) grade based on 70% attendance for all grades.
Thank you for your continued support to our school,
Sean Patterson
Principal, ThunderRidge High School

Attendance Matters!
Consistent attendance in high school is crucial for academic success, as it ensures students receive vital instruction, participate in discussions, and stay engaged with course material. It fosters responsibility, builds discipline, and strengthens relationships with peers and teachers. TRHS Counselors and Administrators are partnering with students, parents and staff to support strong attendance in our school population. Each week in the newsletter, you will find tips to help support your student’s commitment to attendance, school success, and overall well being.
Mindful Minute: Final Exams - Don’t Stress, Just Breathe
Mindfulness helps reduce stress and improve focus during final exams by promoting relaxation and clarity. One effective method is deep breathing: inhale slowly for four counts, hold for four, then exhale for four. This calms the mind, enhancing concentration and reducing anxiety before and during the exam. Check out this article explaining how students can use mindfulness to reduce test anxiety and increase performance.
