October 4
Dr. Matt Thompson- High School
As we transition into October, I want to remind everyone that fall break is quickly approaching. Students will be off the week of October 14, allowing for a well-deserved break after a strong start to the school year.
The first quarter has been both productive and positive here at Forest Park. Our students and staff have shown tremendous commitment and effort in making this a successful term. I’m proud of their hard work and excited to see their growth continue as we move forward.
Quarter 1 grades will be released on October 25, and I encourage you to review them with your student. Let’s celebrate their accomplishments and set goals for the coming months to ensure a successful year ahead.
Mr. Haas- Junior High
Next year's trip is already in the works. Some landmarks are restricted or being renovated next year due to the 250th anniversary of this great nation in 2026, but there are countless landmarks to visit in the DC area. We have a skeleton of a plan in place. We know the travel, lodging, and entry costs for next year's trip, so we are setting the cost at $475. We are working with our athletic department and other staff to set a January date for a parent meeting. More details will be shared soon. We would like to have the student fee paid in full as soon as students have committed to the trip. Paying in January would be great. Some students have asked what it takes to attend the trip. Students must keep up with their homework, not be a behavior concern, not have attendance issues, and be trustworthy. A student must have a good attendance record. Sometimes students cannot attend because they have not met our expected level of trust and responsibility. A student must have a good attendance record. That is unfortunate, but attending the trip is for students who will do the right thing in all situations.
Next Friday is the end of the nine weeks. Please review your child's current grades in Harmony Family Access.
Our 7th graders participate in JA in a Day next Friday from 8:30-1:30.
Our Junior High students will have a nine-week reward next Friday, October 11th. 8th grade will get their treat at 1:00. 7th grade will get their treat at 1:30. Everyone in attendance will enjoy the day with friends on a special walking trip. How are students selected? If they have one or fewer infractions resulting in a detention they can attend. Students with more than one detention will stay back with a staff member.

This is a live document that includes most assignments and upcoming tests and quizzes for core subjects. Click on the tab at the bottom of the sheet to view assignments for the given week. This can be a great tool to check in with your child about what is going on at school.
Jr. High Released Time
8th graders attend on Tuesdays, and 7th graders attend on Wednesdays.
8th Grade: Courses for High School Credit
The following classes are being taught for high school credit in the 8th grade: Spanish I, German I, Algebra I, Physical Education, and Preparing for College and Careers (Mrs. Dilger’s section ONLY).
Students will receive high school credit for these classes, and the semester grade will also be included on the student’s high school transcript.
Taking courses for high school credit is a great opportunity for our students, however; students need to make sure they are doing their best as they begin earning grades that will be reflected on their transcripts.

The end of the 9 weeks grading period is Friday, October 11th. Junior High students enrolled in 9 week courses will switch to their 2nd nine weeks course on Monday, October 21.

With October officially marking the start of flu season I thought now would be a great time to review some tips to staying healthy this year.
Be proactive against getting the flu by getting a flu shot each year if you are able. The flu shot helps your body build immunity to the current strain of influenza “the flu”, which can prevent you from getting sick. If you do still get sick, the duration and intensity of the illness is often diminished.
Wash or use hand sanitizer often! Frequent hand washing is the best way to prevent the spread of germs. As a rule you should always wash your hands after using the restroom, before eating or drinking, and when hands are visibly soiled.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as door knobs, faucets, bathrooms, and food prep areas.
If possible avoid being around others who are sick, and stay home if you yourself are ill.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Using hand sanitizer or washing your hands afterwards is also recommended.
Take care of yourself! Getting enough good quality sleep, eating nutritious foods, staying hydrated, managing and reducing stressors, as well as being physically active are all important to maintaining your health.
FP Blood Drive
The Red Cross will be here at Forest Park on November 6th hosting their fall blood drive for both students (16 and up) and staff in Buechler Arena.
If you are interested in donating blood I have attached a QR code to this email. Scanning the code will take you directly to the website to schedule your appointment time. I just scheduled my time to donate and this is very easy to do, but I am also happy to help anyone having trouble with scheduling get scheduled.
You will need to bring your drivers license or ID with you to your donation appointment. This is also a closed event, meaning the drive is just for staff and students. We have 28 open spots to fill and my goal is to fill them all!

Yearbook
Senior Picture Information for Yearbook
If you have not had your senior child schedule an appointment for his/her senior portrait, you need to consider doing this right away. Although we do not need the photos until January 30, we advise you to schedule a date with a photographer so that your order is completed by the due date. Early October is the absolute latest you would want to schedule an appointment. When choosing an appropriate pose for the yearbook, please select a pose/portrait that is head and shoulders only, or appropriate attire for a professional photo. Also, make sure that the photo of choice meets the school dress code. You or your senior can bring the photo to Mrs. Howard or it can also be e-mailed to natalie.howard@sedubois.k12.in.us from you or the photographer. Vertical photos are best.
Anyone who did not purchase a 2024 high school yearbook and would like to can now purchase one for $50.00. Please make a check payable to Forest Park Yearbook (or cash is accepted) and see Mrs. Howard to pay and pick it up.
DThere will be an Ireland Trip Parent/Student meeting in Mrs. Applegate's room on Thursday, October 4th. Please enter Door 6. We will be discussing scholarship and fundraising opportunities as well as details about the trip. Bring your questions.

ENL
Hello parents and guardians! At the elementary and intermediate levels parents and teachers have been meeting to discuss your child's progress this year. I have been fortunate to attend many of these meetings. Some of you have asked how to help your child at home. I have attached some websites that might be beneficial. The best way to help a child who is learning English is to tell them to read. I have attached a popular website that many of the teachers use in their classrooms. Epic! has many books your child can read. If you have any concerns or questions, please let me know.

Junior High and High School revised ILPs(individual learning plans) will go home next week. Please look at your student's plan and let me know if you have any questions. We can meet if you would like. Please sign, date and return the plan to me, Mrs. Hauser.
Have a great weekend!
¡Hola padres y tutores! Emily Hauser
