Oh, Everitt community, how awesome you are! It was so fun to see you all out in force tonight at the Fall Festival. Our student council planned an amazing event and it just keeps getting better every year. Though the evening began with the added excitement of the fire alarms going off due to our fog machines, it ended up being an amazing evening of fun for all.
We are working toward three behavioral goals as a whole school crew this quarter. They are maximizing time spent in class learning, using honoring language toward everyone, and being respectful to all. Each week, I share with students how we are doing toward our goal and honor the crews who are rocking the goals. This week, we honored Ms. Widtfeldt, Ms. Montez, Ms. Adducci, Ms. Spence, Mr. O'Connor, Ms. Allen, Mr. Price, Ms. Colonna, Ms. Gardner, Mr. Choi, and Ms. Curtiss's crew for maximizing time spent in class (fewest tardies). And 6th grade earned 75 spirit points this week: 25 for correct use of Securly passes, 25 for honoring language, and 25 for being respectful to all.
I hope you and your families have a wonderful weekend and please enjoy the many fun photos below! Thank you for supporting and believing in your neighborhood school. It is our privilege to partner with you!

Book Study Opportunity
Our book study on the book 10-25:The Science of Motivating Young People by David Yeager. The book is about how to help young people between the ages of 10 and 25 to feel inspired, enthusiastic, and ready to contribute rather than discouraged, outraged or overwhelmed. It is equally powerful for parents, educators, mentors, coaches, and managers. We have a wonderful group of parents and staff members and have powerful conversations each week. We meet on Wednesday evenings at 5:00. Purchase the book, read chapter 5, and join us in the conference room on Wednesday evening!
Legend of Sleepy Hollow Field Trip
Some High Quality Student Work from the Week
Do you think the Headless Horseman in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” is a real, supernatural entity, or is it simply a prank orchestrated by Brom Bones to scare Ichabod Crane?
In the text “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving, the Headless Horseman is a prank orchestrated by Brom Bones to scare Ichabod Crane. To support this claim, the author writes in paragraphs 24 and 27, “From the moment Ichaod laid his eyes upon these regions of delight, the peace of his mind was at an end, and his only study was how to gain the affections of the peerless daughter of Van Tassel… This rantipole hero had for some time singled out the blooming Katrina for the object of his uncouth gallantries.” This shows that both Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones are trying to get Katrina Van Tassel to love them, though they might only want this because of the riches they could inherit from this, not love of Katrina herself. This shows that there is somewhat of a war between the two men, which would behoove Brom to scare Ichabod away. That evidence also calls Brom a ‘Rantipole’ hero, meaning that he is a ‘wild, reckless, and sometimes quarrelsome person’, further suggesting that Brom would act as the Headless Horseman, because that kind of person would find it fun to do a prank like that. Another piece of evidence to support the claim is in paragraph 69, where the author states, “Brom Bones, too, who, shortly after his rival’s disappearance, conducted the blooming Katrina in triumph to the altar, was observed to look exceedingly knowing whenever the story of Ichabod was related, and always burst into a hearty laugh at the mention of the pumpkin; which led some to suspect that he knew more about the matter than he chose to tell.” This piece of evidence supports the claim because Brom acts like he knows more than he told about the story, suggesting that he was there, and that the Headless Horseman was actually Brom Bones. The mention of the pumpkin making Brom laugh suggests that he thinks that it was a hilarious prank, as somebody like him would think. This would only happen if it was a prank, which would most likely come from Brom Bones. In conclusion, the Headless Horseman is a prank orchestrated by Brom Bones to scare Ichabod Crane in the text “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving.

Ways to help raise funds for Everitt PTA:
- Does your employer provide matching funds or are they looking for a community non-profit to donate to?
Everitt PTA is a 501c3 non-profit and would be happy to talk to your employer or help with any paperwork needed. While we focus on community building and not fundraising, additional funds could be put to good use helping to outfit more classrooms with the SmartBoard technology your kids have used in some, and all rooms can make great use of them!
- Have you linked your King Soopers Community Rewards yet?
Help raise funds for Everitt just by doing your grocery shopping! Everitt PTA is enrolled in the King Soopers Community Rewards Program. This is a great way to support the school without spending additional money, all you have to do is enroll and King Soopers will give back to Everitt! 🍎🌽🥦🍊
• Go to www.kingsoopers.com
Once logged into your King Soopers or City Market account go to My account ~ Community Rewards ~ search for Everitt Middle School PTA either by name or FT620 and then click Enroll.
