GMS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER MAY 17, 2024
Happy Friday Wolf Pack Families!
It has been another great week at Geisler. I am so proud of our students who are continuing to work hard in the classroom and on their assessments. The GMS Staff have been putting so much effort into challenging our students to reach their highest potential and finish the year strong. I am so grateful for the work they do every day to make our school an awesome place for students to learn and grow! Please see the communications below for a lot of information on upcoming dates, summer chromebook retention and activities for students entering high school next year.
At the end of next week, all after school tutoring will end. I want to thank the families who took advantage of this awesome free opportunity. I also want to thank all of the amazing GMS teachers who were part of the tutoring program. We could not have done it without you!
Wishing you all a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Stuart Riley

Sports Update
Our Boys and Girls track team is doing a great job! They continue to work hard and improve each week. This past week the students competed against White Lake Middle school. Both teams fought hard. The girls won, woohoo! The boys were so close, but lost. We are proud of both teams. Next week the team will compete against Oak Valley on Monday at Milford High School and on Wednesday in the LVC championship at Milford High School. Let us wish all of our athletes luck as the season begins to wind down.
Go Wolves!
Math Pentathletes
Congratulations to Arya Godase and Medha Vuyyuru who competed in the Mathematics Pentathlete Competition on May 11. Both students won "honorable mention." Chromebook Retention Program
Dear GMS Families,
Walled Lake Consolidated Schools will once again offer an optional Summer Chromebook Retention Program for students with district-provided Chromebooks. Signing up for the Summer Chromebook Retention Program allows students to keep their district-provided Chromebook over the summer and into next school year.
The Summer Chromebook Retention Program is open to students currently in grades 6 through 11 who participated in the district 1 to 1 Chromebook program, and who are returning to WLCSD for the 2024/25 school year. This program IS NOT available to elementary school students, students who are not currently participating in the district Chromebook 1 to 1 program, or students who will not be returning to WLCSD next school year.
In order to retain the district-provided Chromebook, families must prepay the non-refundable Technology Protection Plan insurance premium for the 2024-2025 school year no later than Wednesday, May 29 at 11:59PM Eastern Time. The cost for the 2024-2025 non-refundable Technology Protection Plan insurance premium is $20. Payments should be made through eFunds. You can access the eFunds program through the district website or through Family Access. Once logged on to eFunds, find the Technology Protection Plan insurance premium in Optional Fees for each student in the family with a Chromebook.
Families that do not prepay the non-refundable insurance premium will not be eligible to participate in the Summer Chromebook Retention Program.
Please note the Chromebook deposit of $50 is a ONE TIME FEE and was paid prior to pickup of the device. This fee IS NOT required to be paid annually. It will be refunded upon graduation or when the Chromebook is permanently returned. In addition, families who prepay next school year’s non-refundable Technology Protection Plan insurance premium DO NOT need to pay this insurance premium again during the 2024/25 school year. Premiums cover damage July 1-June 30 of each school year
Summer Chromebook Retention Program Details
Students participating in the Summer Chromebook Retention Program will be allowed to keep their district-provided Chromebook for the remainder of the 2023/24 school year, over the summer, and into the 2024/25 school year. Families that prepay the non-refundable insurance premium will retain their Technology Protection Plan insurance coverage during the summer and throughout the 2024/25 school year as follows:
1st repair: Free
2nd repair: $20
3rd repair: $40
Additional repair deductibles will be increased in accordance with the Handbook.
Walled Lake Consolidated Schools is only able to provide limited support services over the summer. If a Chromebook has issues or is in need of repairs over the summer, please complete a repair form for the technology support team https://forms.gle/og9WMTYaHJzHKwte8 for assistance.
By prepaying and retaining the device for the summer, you are agreeing to the terms in the WLCSD Chromebook Policy Handbook Agreement https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ivuL4JB6cdtPdXbeHqQMKUzUG2Vowlvi/view
If families leave the district prior to the end of the summer, they must return their district-provided Chromebook and all accessories to the WLCSD Technology Department, located at 850 Ladd Rd Bldg. D, Walled Lake, Michigan 48390. NO DEVICES will be accepted at a school building.
The Summer Chromebook Retention Program is an optional program. Only families that prepay the 24/25 non-refundable insurance premium will be permitted to keep their Chromebook over the summer. Students that choose not to participate in the program must return their technology equipment on one of their school’s assigned days, which will be communicated to students and families at a later date. We strongly encourage any family that MAY have need for the Chromebook over the summer (Summer Tutoring, Summer School, etc) choose to retain their Chromebook. The WLCSD IT Department will NOT be distributing Chromebooks this summer.
All devices not a part of the Summer Retention Program along with any that have outstanding deposit balances will be disabled by June 7. We will not accept any payments after May 29 at 11:59pm to unlock devices for summer use.
Payment Due Date / DEADLINE
Families that wish to participate must pay $20 no later than Wednesday, May 29 at 11:59PM.
If you have any questions, please contact your school's Computer Resource Teacher.
Thank you.

W4W
Dear Walled Lake Schools Community:
Warriors for Warriors & its community PINK events began in 2011. Without your help, Warriors for Warriors programming will be forced to end after this year.
Planning has begun for our 13th annual Pink Out which will be held on October 25, 2024 and programming will end with the Annual check presentation at Pink Out Basketball game in the Winter. As we begin the process of designing the shirts, looking for business sponsors and jersey sponsors, we are also asking for your help. In order to continue the W4W program, we are in need of new volunteers to continue to drive our success.
At our April meeting we had some new volunteers but unless we can get more new volunteers willing to take on some roles within our organization, this year of Pink Out Events will be the last. Obviously, this is not what we want, but it is time for a new group of people to take over. So many of our current volunteers and board members became a part of W4W while their kids were in middle school. It was a great opportunity to get involved within the Western community as their kids transitioned to high school. We also have volunteers who have never had kids at Walled Lake Western.
Over the past 13 years, we have donated over $700,000 to Susan G. Komen, Angels of Hope and St. Baldrick’s. We know that those dollars have made a real impact on families fighting cancer within our community.
We will be having an informal meet and greet on Monday, May 20th at 6:00 p.m. in the WLW Media Center. At this meeting, we will be choosing the design finalist for this year’s shirt.
If you, or someone you know, has an interest in getting involved, PLEASE join us on the 20th or reach out to us at wlwarriorsforwarriors@gmail.com.
We would be happy to chat with you and provide you with more details. We are seeking assistance at all levels and without a successful search, we regret that the incredibly meaningful W4W program will come to a close.
