Module #1. Overview of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
IDEA is a federal law requiring schools to serve the educational needs of eligible students with disabilities. This presentation will provide an overview of IDEA in which participants will learn about the thirteen disability categories covered under IDEA and how each part of IDEA (A, B, C & D) deals with a specific area of the law. This presentation will also provide a glimpse at IDEA's six major principles, focusing on student and parental rights as well as the responsibilities of public schools for students with disabilities.

It's a Great IDEA: Module #2 - The Right of Students with Disabilities to Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE)
The right to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) is a fundamental educational entitlement for all students in the United States and its territories, established under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and further supported by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). This module will explain what FAPE entails for children who qualify for special education and related services, ensuring participants fully understand how this right impacts their child's educational experience.

It's a Great IDEA: Module #3 - The Right of Students with Disabilities to a Free Appropriate Evaluation
Before a child can receive special education services, they must undergo a thorough evaluation. This module will provide detailed guidance on how to request such an evaluation, explain the policies regarding parental consent necessary before evaluation, and suggest relevant questions that parents or youth might consider asking. This presentation aims to equip you with the necessary knowledge to navigate the evaluation process effectively.

It's a Great IDEA: Module #4 - The Right of Students with Disabilities to an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), children with disabilities are entitled to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), which includes the creation of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). This module will explore the criteria for qualifying for these specialized, tailored educational services. Participants will learn about the various services involved, such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, and special resource room assistance, as well as how a child's progress is monitored and annual goals are set. This presentation is designed to help participants understand the comprehensive scope of an IEP and how it supports the educational development of children with disabilities.
