A Message from Dr. Elyse & Dr. Norah, Principal and AP Friday Morning
Hello this is Dr. Elyse and Dr. Norah, and we had the best day ever. We started off by signing papers and greeting busses. Next, we were able to announce peace certificates and give out prizes. Then, we both went and read to Kindergarten classes. We both got to visit classes at different times. Norah helped with checking the weather and putting up safety signs in case of severe weather. During 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade lunches, I collected feedback for lunch and recess which was great. We learned 4 square is a popular request. We had a lot of fun using the walkie talkies throughout our time. - Dr. Elyse & Dr. Norah
Dear Flower Valley Community,
First, I want to thank Dr. Elyse and Dr. Norah who did a fabulous job as principal and assistant principal for the day Friday. They truly represent what it means to be a leader.
And now, what about Field Day! Wow! Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students had a blast at Field Day! A special shout-out to Mr. Taubman for all of his efforts organizing the day of fun, and a huge shout-out to our families who supported the fun and to all of the staff who pitched in to make it a memorable day for our students.
I would like to take a moment to recognize our Girls on the Run club. Girls on the Run is all about empowering girls and building a strong sense of self. Our students who participated are such wonderful voices in our school, and they did a fabulous job. They all trained for several weeks and ran (and finished) a 5K. They also provided a great deal of service within our community by cleaning up our school grounds and making them look beautiful. A special shout-out to Ms. Summers, Ms. Aust, and Ms. Seaman for leading this effort!
We also welcomed our incoming safety patrols this past week and our new 4th grade Peacemakers. Our 4th grade patrols started shadowing our 5th grade patrols this week, and our Peacemakers will be supporting the 4th and 5th grade recess with their mediation skills and getting some practice in for next year. They are all doing a fabulous job! We are so fortunate to have such wonderful student leaders at Flower Valley!
This upcoming week will be a special evening of music for our students and community. Our chorus and Instrumental Music students will be sharing their musical talents at our FVES concert at Rockville High School May 30th at 7:00PM.
As we begin the Memorial Day weekend, I hope that you take time to honor all of the individuals who have sacrificed their lives defending our country. Without their sacrifices, we would not be able to enjoy the freedom we have as a nation.
Wishing you a peaceful weekend!
Dr. Fish

End of Year Parent Survey: Your Voice Matters!
Your voice makes a difference in the work we do each and every day. We need your input to best reflect upon the current year and plan for the upcoming year. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey linked here. Since portions of the survey focus on individual student experiences, please complete one survey for each child attending FVES. Thank you for your input!
New Literacy Curriculum for MCPS
MCPS will be transitioning to a new literacy curriculum next year. Details about the program can be accessed in the link included here.
Kindergarten Enrollment Update
We are getting close to summer, so if you have not yet enrolled your incoming kindergartener, please do so as soon as possible. With the current budget situation in MCPS, they are closely monitoring our kindergarten enrollment to ensure our current level of staffing is appropriate. If you know of friends in the community with incoming kindergarteners, please let them know to enroll as soon as possible as well. This helps us better plan for next year. Once we have your enrollment information, we will be able to provide you with updates about opportunities to get to know the kindergarten teachers, play dates, class assignments, and so much more! Should you have any questions, please email Mrs. Sintetos at Catherine_G_Sintetos@mcpsmd.org or call 240-740-1780.
All of the details can be found on our school website linked here. Our next tours are June 5th at 8:00AM and 4:00PM.
Support from K-4th Grade Families Needed for 5th Grade Promotion
On June 12th at 5:30PM at Rockville High School, our 5th graders will be celebrating their exit from Flower Valley Elementary School.
Please consider volunteering to help out at the 5th grade promotion ceremony. It is a FVES tradition that parents of younger students offer support at this event so that the 5th grade parents can enjoy this special moment with their child.
There are several 1.5 hour shifts available between 4-7pm. All help is appreciated! If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Taylor at JRT42209@gmail.com.

Supporting Our Community
Join us in celebrating the memory of our beloved former firefly, Madison Jane Smith, by taking part in a Lego drive. We're collecting NEW and UNOPENED Lego sets through May 31st to bring joy to young cancer patients at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. These Legos will give them fun and distraction during their treatments. Let's come together to spread smiles and hope. Your contribution can truly make a difference. Thanks for your support!
