Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
August 30, 2024
What a week! It has been a joy to welcome your children into our school and inspiring to watch the staff in this building get students into learning routines and acclimated to new grade level expectations!
We are so deeply grateful to the parent volunteers who joined us during lunch shifts this week while our cafeteria team of Ms. L and Ms. Mary were both out: Lisa Reagle, Anne Park, Michalle Wolfe, Hayley Rose, Andrea Boeker, Kim Harcum, Joseph Boecker, Sharae McClean -- thank you!! We appreciate your support, especially while students are getting used to routines and we are smoothing out operations.
Reminder that we are OFF on Monday for Labor Day. Friday of next week is our first Spirit Day! We invite students to wear Lutherville colors (black & gold), Lutherville gear, or Leopard print in a show of school spirit!
Next week we also have our first Spirit Night at Baskin Robbins on Wednesday, and the following Tuesday (9/10) is Back to School Night from 5:30-7:30. We hope you'll join us!
In partnership,
-Mr. McComb

BCPS Device Management
On Wednesday, an email was sent to all LL Families to provide an update to BCPS practice regarding system-issued student devices. Please see the attached BCPS Department of Information Technology one-pager for additional details.
In short, last school year BCPS spent significant time and money on the replacement of broken devices and the school system believes that the current breakage rate is unsustainable. To address that rate and control associated costs of repair and/or replacement, the system is moving to a tiered system of financial responsibility for students and their parents/guardians for avoidable damage to devices.
At Lutherville, we understand that some accidents will occur and understand this practice from the school system as targeting damage that could or should have been avoided (reckless use or intentional breakage). Please join us in emphasizing to your child that they should not use the device near open liquids, and should carry their device carefully indoors and in their bags when travelling to and from school. At school, we are reinforcing these practices and expectations as well as inventorying each device with students to ensure they are in full, working order during the initial grace period that closes September 10th.
Summer Reading Competition
Welcome back, students and families!
We are excited to start a new year of learning, and we look forward to finding out what you read over the summer! In June we sent the attached reading log and told you about a friendly competition with our neighboring school, Timonium ES. This is a reminder that logs are due before Sept. 13th so that we can tally up the totals and determine the winning school! If you participated in the BCPL summer reading program, you may transfer those minutes to the school logs and they will be counted in the competition. Please be sure to have your child write their name at the top of the log sheet before submitting it to their teacher. Thank you for your support and we'll see you at BTSN on Sept. 10th!
Sincerely,
Judy Henderson
