Spotlight On - 5th Grade!
5th grade has been working hard to establish strong classroom communities and to get to know students and their families. We’ve introduced hyperdocs and other interactive projects to help students become comfortable using a variety of Google apps and tools. We’ve also focused on goal setting and developing reading identities.
This picture is a student made quote and letter to her future self that was part of a Hopes and Dreams hyperdoc activity!
Specialist Corner
Welcome to guidance! We are Mrs. Shelton (K-2) and Ms. Hauss (3-5). Guidance classes work on supporting students' Social Emotional Learning. Our lessons are aligned with the Sanford Harmony curriculum which uses CASEL standards. Some of the topics that we will focus on are: Diversity and Inclusion, Empathy and Critical Thinking, Communication, Problem Solving, and Peer Relationships. For the beginning of the school year we have been working on the Diversity and Inclusion section of the curriculum. Right now, our lessons are focused on students introducing themselves and understanding and valuing the opinions and differences in others. They learn about each other's personal interests through questions and allowing fellow classmates to respond back to what is being said by others. Moving forward we plan to have students demonstrate a talent or teach a skill that they do well for others in their class to learn. We look forward to getting to learn more about our students and for them to get to know us.
We look forward to the 2020-2021 school year! Let us know any way we can support our students in the classroom or individually.

iReady Reading Update
This year all K-3 students will take the i-Ready Reading diagnostic. This is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student's needs. The purpose of the diagnostic is not to give your student a score or grade, but instead to determine how best to support your student's learning. Students will take this assessment three times this year to measure growth.
The iReady Reading diagnostic window for the beginning of the year (BOY) is September 1st- 29th. Your student's teacher will provide more details about how and when the diagnostic will be administered, as well as provide support to families and students before taking the diagnostic.
Linked below are resources to help families as they administer this assessment at home.
