Family Newsletter
Cleveland STEM High School
November 9, 2023
Hello Cleveland Families,
Today marks the first day of the 2nd Quarter of the school year! While you can continue to monitor your student's grades on Echo, their Quarter 1 grades will soon also be posted and available for you to view as well.
Grades offer a small glimpse into your student's academic story, but it is incomplete. Grades don't reveal much about the journey your student has been on over the past couple of months. They don't speak to what your student is proud of, what they hope to accomplish still, where they see opportunities for growth, and how their efforts support their post-secondary goals.
As we prepare to hold Student Led Conferences, we are excited to hold space for you to hear the story behind each of your student's grades, to hear their hopes for the rest of the school year, and to find opportunities to partner together to support their success. If you have not already heard from your student's advisory teacher, you should hear from them soon to get your time scheduled.
As we go into the long weekend, we want to wish you all a happy Veterans Day, and we want to offer gratitude and appreciation to all of the Veterans within the Cleveland family, including staff, families, and alumni.
Please enjoy a restful and restorative weekend.
Principal Jeff Lam
Assistant Principal Jacklyn Cable
Assistant Principal Laura Roesener
Admin Intern Jenn Kekuna
Admin Intern Trisha Pilapil

Cleveland Booster Presents: Pint Night on November 29th!
We are excited to share with you a great fundraising opportunity for the Cleveland community, organized by our Cleveland Boosters. This event is made possible with the very generous support of Perihelion Brewery in Beacon Hill. Thank you, Perihelion, for supporting the Cleveland community! Please check out this great opportunity to enjoy some drinks (including non-alcoholic options), buy a beautiful Cleveland Pint Night glass, and support Cleveland athletics!
Refer your student for therapy
Joon is a Seattle-based company that provides online therapeutic services for 13-24 year old clients. When students are signed up for services, they are matched with a therapist with expertise in their particular areas of need.
If this sounds like a service your student might benefit from, you can refer them right now, using this link. This service is free for Cleveland students and it is available through, at minimum, the end of this school year.
Upcoming assemblies on internet safety
Many of our students spend a lot of time online, but few have been taught about internet safety.
Starting this week, we will have two Advisory Assemblies from the WA State ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Task Force. They are going to provide education and information on Internet Safety. We have invited them in because of increased reporting around these issues and concerns from Cleveland students and staff. Some of the topics that will be discussed will be:
- Cyberbullying
- Sextortion'
- Online Digital Footprint
The Advisory Assembly held next Wednesday, 11/15 will be for 11th & 12th grade students.
The Advisory Assembly on Wednesday, 11/29 (the week after Thanksgiving break) will be for 9th & 10th grade students.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Principal Lam.
Student email accounts may be down this weekend
Please note: students won't have access to their SPS email overnight on Thursday, and will have limited access/ usage over the weekend. We expect that their accounts should be working like normal by Monday.
