Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up! Teachers have sent an invitation for you to sign up for a time. This is an important time to connect with your child's teacher, learning how your child is doing in school and sharing your insights into your child. The time with the teacher is brief, just 15 minutes, so you are encouraged to take some time in advance to prepare any specific questions you have. We look forward to seeing you!
Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. We know that true bullying can have devastating effects on a child. Like most of the months designated for recognition of one thing or another, we cannot work on preventing bullying just in the month of October. This is our daily work, year round!
The basis for preventing bullying is in our daily social emotional curriculum, where students are taught to be kind, to understand and accept our differences as a positive asset, and, very importantly, to be upstanders for each other when they see someone being treated unkindly. Our classrooms use tools such as the class Charter and class meetings to reinforce messages about the impact of unkind behavior before it can become bullying.
Mission Moment
Ms. Vakharia offers kind support to our students, listening attentively and helping them feel comforted.”
VOLUNTEERS FOR SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Highland’s Fall Scholastic Book Fair will be at school in the Cafeteria on October 10-11 during Parent/Teacher conferences. Please consider volunteering for 15 minutes either before or after your scheduled conference time. Volunteers will be helping with processing Book Fair transactions.
Sign up to be a Scholastic Book Fair volunteer by clicking HERE!
All are welcome to attend Highland PTA’s Trunk-or-Treat!
Those planning to decorate their car trunks for the event need to REGISTER HERE by October 21st. Please be sure to bring enough candy or treats to pass out to Highland’s little ghosts and goblins. Participating vehicles must arrive to park and set up their trunks by 2:30pm. Trunk or Treating begins at 3pm. Highland’s ghosts and goblins should only visit each trunk once to collect treats.
Want to help in another way? Candy donations are needed to refill trunks as they run out. Email ptahighlandschool@gmail.com to donate candy!
Drop and Go
Parents are reminded that the drop off lane on the north side (school side) of Payne St. is for "Drop and Go". In that area, drivers pull up, get the child(ren) out of the car and onto the sidewalk where there are school personnel to guide them as needed, and then get back in the car and drive away. This allows others a space for safe drop off as well. We all need to do our part for student safety.
If you need to stay by the fence until your child enters the school, or want to sit in your car to do the same, please park elsewhere to ensure all parents have the space to drop and go safely.
Please note that school staff are not allowed to step off the sidewalk to cross your child. This is the responsibility of the person dropping the child off. School personnel will guide your student once they are safely on the sidewalk.
Inclement Weather Reminder
When the weather prevents us from lining up outside before school, all students enter the building from the door on Payne St. beginning at 8:30 am.
