NOVEMBER GRATITUDE
2023 đŚ
Message from Principal Suderman
Two months down and wrapping up the first quarter of our school year! As I've shared with staff, the run from the start of school to the end of 1st quarter is 8 straight weeks of full 5-day weeks. We go from all the big energy of the start of school to hitting the grind of grades, attendance, extra time commitments, extra effort, digging in, post-season, progress monitoring ... it all hits at some point during this 8 week run. So, "how's it going?" you might ask. Well, I've been asked this question many times by lots of different people. Not to get to deep, but a person can read a lot into this question especially given the tone of how it's asked; is this a question to start an off-hand conversation, do they really want to know, do they already have some idea and just want to calibrate, do they want you to do something for them, or - and you know the tone - are they actually concerned about how it's going? It's all in the tone. :) I've generally answered this question with, "I think it's going well." For this newsletter, I'd like of offer a bit more clarity and some data to support the assertion that things ARE going well. We can always improve, and there's a lot to point to as evidence that it's been a great 1st quarter!
Based on ~ 460 Student responses -
What are families reporting? Based on 39 Tumwater High School family responses to the Panorama Fall 2023 TSD Family-School Relationships Survey...
68% responded favorably when asked how much THS values the diversity of student backgrounds.
69% responded favorably when asked how well staff at THS create a school environment that helps students learn.
64% responded favorably when asked how safe their student feels at school.
46% responded favorably when asked how comfortable their student is in asking for help from school adults.
Thank you T-Bird Families! I'm looking forward to the month of November and always feel grateful for the investment that our staff, students and community make on behalf of Tumwater High School.
Gratefully,
Zach Suderman
THANKSGIVING MEALS FOR FAMILIES
It's that time of year for our annual Thanksgiving Boxes sponsored by Coach McGrath and our wonderful staff! Each year we are constantly amazed by the generosity and abundance given by our staff for our students and families in need. This year, as in years past, our goal is for 20 boxes to go to our families. If you know of a student or family in need, please let us know! This will be a tough year for some of our families and we want to show them our T-Bird Love!
We will be coordinating with THS Staff to make sure we cover as many families as possible. Thank you, in advance, for all your generosity!

FALL SPORTS WRAPPING UP ~ WINTER SPORTS JUST ABOUT TO START!
The Fall sports regular season recently came to a close with many highly successful programs. The Girls Cross Country program is sending Annabelle Clapp, Alexandra Broome, and Olivia Ahrens to Pasco on November 4th to compete, while the Boys Cross Country program qualified as a team after finishing 3rd at the District Championship.
In Boys Golf, Tumwater took the League championship, which was held at Tumwater Valley Golf Course. In District play, Braeden Konrad and Nolan Campbell finished in the top 10, punching their ticket to the State golf tournament in the Spring.
In Boys Tennis, we had a number of Singles and Doubles make it to the District tournament. After running into some tough competition, Cody Lambert and Kaleb Peterson earned the 1st Alternate spot in Doubles. This State competition will also be held in the Spring.
Our three other team sports â Football, Girls Soccer, and Volleyball â had highly successful regular seasons. In total, they went a combined 39-1 (32-0 in league play!). All three teams earned a #1 seed in District play, which will be played at various locations during the week of Oct 30th. State tournament seeds will be decided on Sunday, November 5th. We anticipate some deep playoff runs by our teams, and we are excited to see how postseason unfolds. Go T-Birds!
