District News and Updates

March 21, 2025
Dear Avon Lake City Schools Community,
An extraordinary gesture of support, kindness, and generosity took place during this past Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Board of Education, as the Avon Lake City Schools became the beneficiary of donations totaling approximately $25,000. Led by Kenneth Remy, MD, who represented the host of individuals, sponsors, and local entities who made donations, this significant and special gift was presented with an incredible sense of community spirit and pride in light of Avon Lake Travel Basketball Association’s organization of the Harlem Wizards event that involved more than 1,000 participants from our community. Thank you, Dr. Remy, Avon Lake Travel Basketball Association, and all of our donors!
Did You Know? Important Financial Considerations
The Avon Lake City Schools will have Issue 16, a bond issue, and Issue 17, an operating levy on the May 6th, 2025, ballot this spring. In order to remain informed as best as possible, district leaders have included the following information for your consideration. You can learn more about Issues 16 and 17 by visiting this page on the website.
Elementary Gifted Services Presentation
On Thursday, March 27, we will have an informational presentation about our gifted services for students in grades 3-4 next year. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Avon Lake High School. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Elementary Open Enrollment
If you are interested in requesting your child to attend a building that’s outside of your updated attendance zone and have not already done so (or been contacted by the district office), we ask that you complete our Intra-District Enrollment Application form for consideration of building placement. Requests are considered on a space available basis, and transportation is not provided. Please know that this is a time sensitive matter and must be returned to our District Registrar no later than March 31, 2025. You can find our form HERE.
Social Studies Curriculum Adoption
Our district’s Social Studies curriculum is undergoing its 6-year review cycle for the upcoming school year. A district level committee representing each building and grade level has examined several different programs. We welcome parent feedback on these programs. We will have an Open House to preview physical copies of materials and meet with the representatives from the finalist programs. This is scheduled for Thursday, March 27th, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Avon Lake High School in the media center.
Our next Coffee Chat is scheduled for Thursday, April 3rd at 9 a.m. at The Kitchen. Thank you always to the individuals who take advantage of our efforts to keep our communications open with our citizens!
Have a great weekend!
Joelle Magyar
Superintendent
