March 18-22, 2024 was Celebrate Reading Week at Washington Intermediate! Each day we celebrated reading in a fun way. Monday we celebrated joke books and each student received a piece of Laffy Taffy that contained a joke. Tuesday we had guest readers in each class. Mrs. Harmon, the head librarian, brought high school students to read and they shared about their participation in their book club. Each student also received a card with a funny joke on it. Wednesday each student participated in creating a comic strip. On Thursday Dewayne Shake was our guest speaker. He spoke to the students about how to tell a joke and shared jokes with the students. Friday we had a Kids Book Giveaway! Each student received a free book. Hope you have been able to see growth in your child's reading this year.

All of our 4th grade classes were able to take a trip to Evansville for the day. Students listened to the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and were able to eat lunch at Chick-fil-A. It was all around a wonderful experience for everyone involved. We were given so many compliments on how well behaved our group was. Big thank you to our wonderful music teacher, Mr. Sydow for making this possible. Mr. Sydow is truly a blessing in our school system and appreciate everything he does for our students.

Each classroom collected money March 18-22! The class with the most money were able to throw a pie at our beloved, Mr. Cherry, including the teacher!! All the proceeds will go directly to the Isaiah 117 House! Congratulations to Mrs. Clark's second grade class who had the please to pie Mr. Cherry! Our school raised $2,330.94 in just one week!!!!

WIS STEAM CLUB members learned to use 3D printers, Cricut cutting machines, robots, engineering activities, and more this year. Students learned to work together to problem-solve design challenges while building balloon racecars from recycled materials. Several students designed shirts and printed their designs on the Cricut. They learned about coding robots using Dash and Dot. They had a lot of fun driving the robots around the STEAM Lab. Ms. Fellers and Mrs. Dubon have enjoyed this group and their creativity.
