6th Grade SS: Cultural Components Mini Projects
In 6th Grade Social Studies, the students have been exploring Unit 4: Culture! The unit built student's domain-specific vocabulary around the topic and then the students got to conduct their own research on a country of their choice! 6th graders had to discover their choice's cultural components of traditions, beliefs, values, rituals, and behaviors. They created a Kami multi-page poster through Canvas. The students had to write multiple paragraphs detailing and identifying the cultural component. Parents/guardians of a 6th graders can view their child's project by logging into Canvas, accessing the "Assignments" tab, and selecting "Cultural Components Mini Research Project" or have their child bring it up on their iPad.
2nd Grade Adventure in Legoland
The 2nd Graders at Mark Twain recently visited Legoland and The Rainforest Cafe at Great Lakes Crossing. Our favorites at Legoland included the 4D movie, Kingdom Quest Ride, Merlin’s Apprentice Ride, and Lego Miniland. At the Rainforest Cafe, we enjoyed a tour of the amazing fish tanks and animatronic animals. We had an amazing time and want to thank all our parent volunteers who helped make this trip so memorable.
Science Olympiad at MCC
This year's Science Olympiad Team represented our school proudly on Saturday, May 10th at Macomb Community College. We competed against 30 other K-6 Macomb County schools in 14 events. Students also participated in several open events that were exciting and fun. We had three teams win medals: our “Bridging the Gap” team consisting of Nellie Blehm & Aria Venneste, our “Reflection Relay” team consisting of Grace Kirby, Nellie Blehm, and Joseph McLaughlin, and our “Ping Pong Propulsion” team consisting of Marco Cracchiolo and Sterling Sanders! We are especially thankful to our supporters and parent coaches. We look forward to having more students participate next year!
Field Day is Coming
This year Twain's Field Day will take place on Wednesday, May 28th with a rain date scheduled for Thursday, May 29th. Only parents that volunteer in-advance (see below) and pass a background check will be able to attend the event. Also, be on the lookout for a text or email on the morning of the event should we have to cancel due to the weather.
A few reminders:

Twain Parking Lot Reminders
- Please do not park in Handicap parking without a permit.
- The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please do NOT swear on school grounds. We are trying to set a positive example for behavior for our Twain Comets, and shouting and swearing at other drivers does not set the right example for our kids. We ask our students to be respectful, organized, cooperative, kind, and safe, and we expect those behaviors to be modeled by our parents, too.

Spring BBQ Lunch
On Wednesday, May 21st we will be hosting our BBQ lunch. This event is limited to Twain students only. Weather permitting, we will be eating outside picnic style. Students are encouraged to bring small blankets to sit with their friends on the grass or blacktop.. Should the weather be unkind, we will look at allowing students to lay out their blankets in the gym.
