A Message from Dr. Moss
December at HBS
Dear Families,
As the year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on all the wonderful things happening here at Holland Brook. December is such a special time of year, and the energy and excitement from our students fill the hallways daily.
This month, we are focusing on the values of kindness and community. Our students have been participating in various service projects and acts of giving. It's truly inspiring to see our students learning the importance of helping others and spreading joy during this season.
Academically, our students continue to grow and shine. Teachers are wrapping up units and preparing students for midyear benchmarks. It’s incredible to see how much progress has been made since the start of the school year! Please encourage your children to keep up their hard work as we move into the holiday break.
Come join us at RMS for our Winter Concert on 12/18 at 6 pm to hear our talented students showcase their musical skills.
As always, thank you for your continued support and involvement. I’m grateful to work alongside such a wonderful community of students, staff, and families. Wishing you all a joyful holiday season and a happy, healthy start to the new year.
Best,
Dr. Moss
What I Love About Holland Brook (Student Edition)
In this section, you will hear from various students throughout the year on their thoughts and experiences about HBS.
My name is Mason Lelii. The first time I walked into HBS I was really surprised at how cool the school looked. All of the decorations and paintings on the wall got me really excited. Then I was extremely lucky to get some of the best teachers in NJ. Being a student at HBS makes me feel proud because we care about people and show it by doing donations. What being a Bobcat means to me? Be nice, caring about people and always trying your best.
My name is Sadie Pirez and I am a 4th grader at HBS. I think Holland Brook School is the best because… we have a lot more independence. For example, the teachers let us walk independently to recess, they trust us to make good choices. In addition, at the end of the day, when we are dismissed we get to walk to the buses with our friends. The teachers are in the hallway to give us a friendly wave goodbye. It makes me feel more mature and responsible. Also, we can make more friends because TBS and WHS meet at HBS. I am proud to be a Bobcat!
Fifth Grade Field Trip To RVCC Planetarium
This month, Fifth graders had the opportunity to visit Raritan Valley Community College’s Planetarium, where they spent the morning experiencing all the fun that Space has to offer! They participated in an array of educational programs and activities that allowed them to put their academic knowledge to good use.
Students learned all about the stars, planets, and our amazing Universe. Aside from pairing up with a partner and solving a fun scavenger hunt, they also had the chance to explore the 3M Observatory, which allowed students to view the night sky, from the Moon to distant galaxies, as well as experience an interactive presentation and video in the Planetarium itself. Students ended this wonderful field trip with a wealth of knowledge that carried right back into our Science classes here at HBS!
Turkey Trot
What an incredible Turkey Trot we had this year! I’m thrilled to share that our event was a huge success, thanks to the support of our amazing school community.
Our students did an outstanding job, giving it their all as they ran, jogged, and walked around the course. Their smiles, energy, and determination were contagious! The music was pumping, the encouragement from staff was nonstop.
Thanks to your generosity, we raised $4,890 to fund this year’s Field Day! This means we can plan an unforgettable day full of games, activities, and treats to celebrate our students at the end of the school year. We’re already excited about what’s to come, and it wouldn’t have been possible without your support.
The Turkey Trot wasn’t just a fundraiser—it was also a day to celebrate community, health, and school spirit. Our students are still talking about how much fun they had, and we hope they’re proud of the impact they made.
Thank you again for making this event such a success. Together, we’re creating lasting memories for our students and giving them experiences they’ll treasure.
HBS Community Service Project
I’m thrilled to share the wonderful experience our students had on Friday as they participated in a meaningful service project to help those in need within our community. Their creativity, compassion, and teamwork truly shined as they worked on a variety of projects to spread kindness and joy.
Here’s what our students accomplished:
Meals on Wheels: Students designed cheerful, personalized bags for Meals on Wheels recipients, bringing a little extra brightness to their day.
Food Pantries in Readington and Flemington: Each student prepared a “snowman soup” packet (hot cocoa, marshmallows, and candy canes) to bring a touch of warmth to families receiving assistance.
Assisted Living Facilities: Students created beautiful origami pouches for tea bags to share with residents, along with crafting delicate snowflakes to decorate our hallways and spread holiday cheer.
This impactful day would not have been possible without the incredible effort and dedication of Mrs. Neuberger, who organized and coordinated every detail of this amazing event. A huge thank you to her for making it such a special and rewarding experience for our students!
We’re so proud of the difference our students made on Friday, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to teach them the value of giving back to others. Please take a moment to ask your child about their experience—we’re sure they’ll be excited to share all the details!
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to instill kindness and generosity in our students. Wishing you a joyful holiday season!
