"Fork in the Road" - Where are we going?
PLC Community
One of the important factors to a PLC community has to be the clear Vision, Mission, Goals and a district road map of sorts as on "where are we going". This edition of Friday Feedback is dedicated to just that.
Dr. Tim Westerberg visited KCSD on Wednesday 11/2, and will be back on 11/16, to help our district formulate such a plan and make sure that our district road map is clear for our Standards Based Grading initiatives and other essential elements to our learning community; currently our district road map is not clear. We have a lot of great and essential features of a true PLC community but somewhere along the line we forgot the most important part - a district road map for success and how we all "fit". Over the next several months, our coaches, core strategists, administrators, parents and community will help clarify our district road map to paint a clearer picture on "where are we going" and "where are we currently".
I want everyone to collectively take a deep breath and realize that we are doing a lot of really great things that all tie to student achievement; the goal from here is to make it clear how it all ties together district wide and refresh ourselves on what true PLC teams look and sound like so that our teams can continue do the right work.
We will share successes and next steps next Wednesday because we have many things to be proud of and celebrate. As always, the work is never done and is a continuous cycle of collective inquiry into student achievement.

PLC Structures and PLC Processes
“In schools that help students burdened by poverty achieve remarkable success, teachers work in collaborative teams to build common formative assessments and use the data to identify which students need help and which need greater challenges. But they also use data to inform teachers’ practice, to discuss why one teacher is having success in teaching a concept and others are not, and what the more successful teacher can teach his or her colleagues” (Chenoweth, 2009)

Three Big Ideas that Drive our PLC (MTSS is part of our PLC - see below)
The purpose and mission of the school is to ensure that all students learn at high levels
Helping all students learn requires a collaborative and collective TEAM effort by every staff member
PLC’s must address and know the following -
What do we want all students to learn? (essential, guaranteed, and viable curriculum/standards)
How will we know they are learning? (frequent, team-developed, common formative assessments)
How will we respond when they don’t learn? (MTSS systematic interventions)
