The Weekly Update #4
September 23rd, 2024

Principal's Message
Welcome to October!
We have had a great start up to the year, full of lots of learning! Students are settling into their routines, and as I visit classrooms, I see high engagement in the lessons and learning. Our athletic programs have also started up with cross country running and volleyball starting in the past month! Our cross country team did fantastic this month, and a few of our high school students are off to provincials next weekend. Go TIGERs! We are super appreciative to our team coaches and their dedication to our school.
We have had great weather thus far this fall, including last Friday on our Terry Fox run. Thank you to all of our families for helping us to meet our fundraising goal. Students enjoyed their ice cream treat in recognition of their efforts this week! We also want to say thank you to our School Council volunteers who came in to BBQ hotdogs for all of our students on that day as well.
We have a very busy week next week, with lots of events including the book fair, school photos, and parent teacher interviews. We hope to see many of you on Thursday evening!
Also coming up on October 31st, we will be having our Halloween activities, including pumpkin carving in the morning for elementary students (supported by our secondary students), our costume parade at 1pm, and our elementary dance and secondary pumpkin painting in the afternoon. More information will be sent out about these events later in the month!
As always, if you have any questions about school events or your child's learning, we encourage you to reach out to teachers and school administrators.
Have a great long weekend, everyone!
Parent Teacher Interviews
Our first set of parent teacher interviews will be on October 17th, from 3:30 until 8:30. Parents are encouraged to come in and meet with teachers to discuss their child's progress. Please sign up for your interviews here.
Cross Country 2024
Our Cross Country team participated in the Bashaw, Camrose and New Norway races, representing our school and doing us proud! Our students had great results this season, and some of our Senior Athletes will be heading to Provincials next weekend!

Real-Time Reporting
A reminder to parents, this year BRSD has moved to Real-Time Reporting, meaning that all student marks are online and teachers will be commenting on assignments online to report on student progress. Report cards will no longer be issued throughout the year.
During parent teacher interviews, we will have staff members available to help parents get set up on the PowerSchool portal and app if they are not already set up. If you are having difficulty accessing the information, please reach out to the school office for support.
Terry Fox Run 2024
We had a beautiful day for the run this year! HLS Parent Council kicked off the event with a barbeque hot dog lunch for all students - thank you so much! Funds raised surpassed our school goal of $1200! Well done Hay Lakes students!
Breakfast Club Donation
We are so grateful for a donation to our Breakfast Program! Rosemary Arnett stopped by to present a cheque from Our Saviour Lutheran Church here in Hay Lakes to Mrs. Nordin and Mrs. Howell, our amazing Breakfast Club team. Thank you so much!
Scholastic Book Fair
Our Fall Book Fair is coming soon! It will be open to students and parents October 15th - 18th. You are welcome to attend the Fair during your student's scheduled time or at any time during our scheduled hours. Flyers will be sent home the week of October 7th - watch for them in your child's backpack! For updates on the Book Fair and for previews of what's available, click here.
